Alright, so I'm going to try and say things in as little words as possible. So from the ending the way I see it is that after Booker gets baptised he becomes Comstock, meets the scientists and builds columbia. However Elizabeth realizes that comstock is a monster and runs away or whatever, this is the 800 yr old Elizabeth you meet in the game and gives you the song notes to control songbird. Apprently this is the universe that sets things in motion. because Elizabeth runs away Comstock knew what shes capable of, this is why he steals baby Elizabeth from another universe, creates song bird, builds the tower and raises her as the salvation or whatever. Because Comstock does this, the events in the other universes play out as Booker gets baptised, Booker gives Elizabeth to Comstock, meets scientist, builds Columbia and takes another universe's Elizabeth. From whats explained in the ending there are constants and variables, Booker becoming Comstock and doing all this is what apperntly creates the never ending loop, these are the constants in each universe.
Alright so from what I understand, the booker you play as doesnt become Comstock and the result is what you play in the game. Because Booker changes a constant he practically messes up the loop. In the end he allows Elizabeth to drown him. Being now dead he doesn't take another universe's Elizabeth, breaks the loop and things get undone one step at a time. Thats what I think what happens and I'm open to being completly wrong. But the thing I don't understand is that Booker kills himself after having Elizabeth, this should mean that Columbia is never built but Elizebeth is still alive meaning that she lives a normal life. It isn't clear in the ending if she dies or is still alive, but she vanishes from the scene. Does she vanish because with Booker now dead she doesnt experience the events of Columbia and lives a normal life, or does she ceast to exist as well?
This is one of the most confusing endings ever.
