@greaseman1985: Joker has had so many interpretations over the years, it's hard to pin down which one is the "true" Joker. Cesar Romero's was a trickster. Nicholson's was more a gangster than anything else, same as Mark Hamil's. Ledger's was an anarchist. Leto's was...whatever the hell Leto's was.
Even the comics have him in different roles. Trickster, bank robber, anarchist, terrorist, mass murderer.
So it's basically the flashback stuff from Killing Joke.
Why? I just don't get it. It feels like DC/WB are only obsessed with these old books from the 80s and 90s. Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, Death of Superman, Killing Joke, Knightfall.
There are so many other, better stories out there to adapt or take inspiration from.
@josefo: I think Get Out and Shape of Water both deserve everything. I'd be okay if one got Best Picture and one got Best Director. Best Picture to Get Out and Best Director to Del Toro because he deserves recognition for his amazing work over the years.
