IMHO the most likey reason your PS3 will fail is over heating.. e.g. after a few years the board will get a good insulating layer of dust the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU will dry out and the fan will loose a few percent of its ability. The motherboard will cook and dry solder joints will form and sooner or later it will YLOD.

If you where to get your PS3 services once a year clean out the dust and reapply decent thermal paste it might last longer. But standby really should not be a problem..

Guess the power supply might burn out..

I'm undecided on its capabilities.. But I just can't believe that it can be a success unless it works with the majority of new games..

From what's been announced I won't be buying one..

But its to early to say..

Sounds like the games not for you.. The challenge (for me anyway) of this game is to get through it with the least damage to your own side and the maximum (and the shortest time) on the enemy. I loved this game so much I got 100% on all missions (including hard) then acceived all of the medals.

My only complaint with this game was it was down before PS3 trophies and thus I can't claim another 100%.. ;-)

My advice is that if you don't like it don't play it.. I got a copy of Untitled (Drakes fortune) because everybody said it was great and thought it was boring..

There are more games in the pipeline.. But depending on your pedigree you might like an updated classic like Ratchet and Clank or some of the ancient PS1 games that are being offered.

Doesn't sound very surprising.. I'm not a windows expert but if this where a Linux/Unix/Mac box you'd have to activate IP forwarding on your box to allow it to act like a router.

Don't windows boxes have Internet Sharing that does the same thing?

OK, if you don't fix the reason why it overheated and caused dry solder joints your PS3 will die again and again. Reflowing the motherboard fixes the unit but unless you figure out why it was overheating in the first place!!.

Clearance and dust seem to be the culprits most claimed, take your PS3 apart and use compressed air to clean it out.

Probably time to either take sony up on there refurb offer or but a new slim.

I'm still considering water cooling my 60Gb PS3 but the cost means I'm almost certainly going to have to get a slim.

The key is using the PS3 reset (e.g. holding down the power button whilst turning it on until it bleeps twice). However if that doesn't work then I think you have a video connection issue. So double check your video connections starting at the PS3 and working back to the TV's connector.

Then make sure that the video cable is plugged into the correct socket on the TV.

Failing that find another TV and repeat.

If its still not working time to contact Sony.

Good luck

I understand that the PS3 versions will mirror the model they used for Xbox.. So yes you will need a copy of GTA IV and then either download the content you want to the PS3 disk or buy it on a installable PS3 Blu-ray disk.

Clean the dust form the fan and scrape off all of the thermal compound from your CPU and GPU and reapply decent stuff..

The PS3 increases the fan when the CPU/GPU get hot, so in your case it sounds like its not working..
