@Timmy_Gwar @Exodiouse The 200,000+ viewers who watched the WCS finals over the weekend would probably disagree. Or the millions combined with DotA2 and LoL.

@Payasoplas I never said he was a sportsman, so I'm not sure what your argument is.

@erMonezza All you're doing is highlighting how ignorant and uninformed you are. Becoming a world class StarCraft player requires far more training and technical ability than most hobbies, and a good number of professions, too.

It is what it is.

@Saidrex @ACLDox @Nibraybirk Practicing (at over 300 actions per minute) and studying up to 14 hours per day in order to be a world champion contender is pretty hard work. I work anywhere between 40 and 60 hours per week and I find it easier than what they put themselves through. You'd be surprised how quickly the game stops being fun when you're playing it all day, every day.

People like you need to move past this archaic culture where digital entertainment isn't a valid industry. Society has changed, technology has changed, and with it, the demographic has changed.

If you don't find it interesting, that's fine. It's not for everyone. But going out of your way to belittle and insult the accomplishments of talented individuals is a bit unnecessary. I personally don't follow any particular sport, but I sure as hell don't go around to football websites calling everyone stupid. I respect the athletic skill of a sportsman as much as I respect the mental dexterity of a world class StarCraft player.

At the end of the day, these are young adults who love games - just like you. Why create a barrier? Is it really that important to separate yourself from the demographic?

@TraceSkipper @Payasoplas @ACLDox @Nibraybirk Assuming there isn't a future for him elsewhere in the gaming industry, what's stopping him from resuming his studies or getting a job like any other person?

@Saidrex @ACLDox @Nibraybirk What on earth are you basing this on? Have you many any of these guys? They work more hours than most "regular" jobs. What makes them losers? How are they slacking? What did they do to be labeled assholes?

@SurlyPotato Do you also visit your national news website and comment on every single article that doesn't appeal to you? Why do you waste your time with shit like this?

@PacoTaco @frozenux @Vidpci SC2Earnings doesn't include salary or external income sources (ie. streaming, promotional work). There is a wide array of professional players who are living comfortably, but not earning more than your average 9-5 worker.

But they're having the time of their life, so why not? A high majority of these guys are just doing it on the side whilst studying at university, too.

The whole basement-dwelling leech of society stigma needs to be buried already. This isn't World of Warcraft.

@Rayzakk @frozenux @unreal101 @Vidpci The mere notion of arguing about the entertainment industry & value to society on a website dedicated to gaming is ludicrous. You've been a member here for 5 years, with an estimated collection value of over $3,000. You're clearly an avid fan of video games.

By your definition, the industry you have so passionately invested your time and money into is just as meaningless as the ones you're criticising.

Not everything in life exists for the purpose of furthering the human race. Some things are simply here to be enjoyed.

Like ice cream. And films. And eSports.
