[QUOTE="Jaguar_Shade"]PS2 I got it at the end of its reign rather than at the start And I only played Shadows of the Colossus and FFX on it. And I loved both games immensely, but it only entertained me for 2 months tops, and I did pay several hundred for that limited thrill.Mike1978Smith
You paid several hundred dollars for a PS2, FFX, Shadow of the Colossus? Several?

I wondered the same. I'm sure he meant couple hundred ;)

Gamecube, I played only one game

xbox360, I think I went through 3 of them in less than a year and microsoft would keep sending me back refurbished ones.

besides most of their good titles come to the PC anyways. I sold my 360 for 100$.

People get immature when I speak on the mic and say sexist jokes. As of last month I don't talk in game on left 4 dead. It's 2 many kids that never heard a female voice before.

I think great titles aren't being produced as frequent as they were back in the day. It's like developers are running out of ideas. Notice how remakes of past games turn into sellers? Use the remake of Street Fighter as an example. Street Fighter 4, 2-D Fighting 3-D Graphics more effects. I wouldn't say mario is a remake since they changed the style of play, but ever since the first Mario, almost all Mario releases sold quite a bit and became very popular. I tend to lose interest of single player games really fast if the story is boring. So yea I'd agree newer games aren't as good gameplay wise. I'm not considering the online games out, I actually enjoy online games more than the new single player games out. But back then they didn't exist :)

would the corsair 550w will work fine?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006 I'd get that one if I were you. Extra wattage, and your not limited to upgrades in the future. Just my opinion.

[QUOTE="Liferow"]

Get 4GB you won't need 6. Bench marks show that there is hardly any difference at all between a 4 and a 6GB build. me personally I would keep the power supply you chose first, the 650 Watt, you can never go wrong with extra power. That Video card you listed requires a minimum of a 450W power supply. As a general rule, you never want to have the minumum requirement. Get a 650 or higher. Get a good quality one, never go cheap on power supplies.

neatfeatguy

so you're implying that Corsair's 400W is a bad PSU and won't be able to power what he needs? How about this on power consumption? http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3523 Or this? http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gts-250,2172-10.html Or maybe this? http://www.guru3d.com/article/palit-geforce-gts-250-2048mb-review-test/3 These tests are giving you a total power consumption of the whole system. These tests are generally done using the newer i7 cores and MB or at least Q6600 CPUs. Most benches I see are generally NOT done with AMD CPU/MB combos. However, if you absolutely feel that a Corsair 400W PSU isn't enough to run the system the OP is looking to put together, then why not pick up Antec 500W or Corsair 450W or PC Power & Cooling 500W? Thus allowing the OP to save a few bucks....

The GPU itself is consuming 240+ watts. He gets a 450 watt PSU, he's limited to future upgrades if needed. If he wants to settle for that and plan to not ever upgrade, it's fine. I just don't see why no one wouldn't want to spend the extra 30 bucks for more wattage and amps and not have to worry about being limited to future upgrades. The card itself uses 240 at full load. Your other components need power to. After you add all that, you will be close to your peak. When you're that close to your peak, that's when power supplies tend to give. Always want extra, never just the right amount. My opinion from my experiences.

I spend all that money cause it's a hobby of mine. I spent a grand on my monitor to get the 2560x1600 resolution. I see a huge difference compared to 1680x1050 which i had before. A lot of the new games don't play so well at that setting, so I had to settle for the gtx 295 as well, better results. I just simply love the best of the best, luckily i can afford it. But point I was making, PC Gaming is expensive as the user choses to make it. Settle for mediocre or go for the best, or just be an enthusiast like me. Some people think it's expensive because many hardcore gamers make it seem that way. I agree all you really need is about 1,000$ on a tower and you can play new games with descent quality. But it's a bit complicated, it's more so bragging than needing all that expensive hardware. And to be honest I don't need to spend 600$ on a video card every year, But It's my hobby. I just like being up to date. It becomes an addiction.

It really depends on the person. When you say PC for Gaming. I'm assuming you want the best machine possible.

Gaming computers are like custom cars. New hardware comes out every month and hardcore gamers gotta have em, so I find myself upgrading something new every couple of months. I spent well over 3000$ on my machine just on upgrades in the last 2 years, Originally i spent half of that to start off my build back when the 8800 series cards were the thing. I think the only thing I have left of my first build is the case. 3000$ isn't necessary for everyone, It's my hobby and I can afford it so why not...

I find myself spending 500$+ Bucks on video cards every 6 months to a year. Then a new processor with a new socket comes out, then that means I have to upgrade my Motherboard+Processor+Heatsink+RaM. You'll find yourself spending way more money on a gaming rig if you want the top of the line stuff over a console. Spend about 700$ on a gaming machine you can probably get ok graphics. Close to 2,000$ or slightly less will get you an excellent gaming build with way better graphics than consoles. So in answer to the question, it's by far more expensive to have a High end gaming build over a console, and just about the same if you don't care for the high end stuff, just enough to play the games on descent setting. PC gaming is more expensive if you chose the high end route, otherwise mediocre machine and consoles kinda even out. You spend 60$ on a console game or 30$ on a PC game. I have way more console titles than PC titles mainly because PC games that come out last longer because of online play yet i'm hardly on the console. Console games are shorter so you always end up buying a new game every couple of weeks. You can end up spending a hefty amount on console gaming as well. 60$ a game adds up. I have about 13 or 14 titles on the console. That's about 800$ add that to the 400$ i spent on the PS3 $1200, add a couple hundred more and you can build a gaming rig. So again, all depends on the user ;)
