@fancelot i agree gamespot is biased, as i stated in one of my previous post, and the ati cards from the 38xx series and above have all been outstanding, and i support ati, just as i support nvidia, just the gtx 280 is a monster especially for having only one gpu.... and 2 in sli, just as two ati 4870 in crossfire, will run any game at max and AA at over 60fps... both companies make excellent products.. just i prefer nvidia, and im glad ati is coming back, and coming back hard... means good competition for nvidia, which means either a. nvidia works their butts off to come up with something better, or move out of the spotlight for ati, but nvidia will come out with something great, that stomps anyting ati has got, and then ati will do it back to them, it will be back and forth, which is great for us consumers, cause both companies will have monster cards that they will have to lower the prices for, so it is easier for us to obtain them.... :) im a true gamer, i support all gamers, and the components/consoles they use... as long as they enjoy it hey.... whats the problem... and thats the way most people here should look at it, but there are people on here that will shun others because they choose nvidia, and there will be people on here that shun others because they like ati.... but hey shows their ignorance.. both companies are doing wonderful, and pc gaming is starting to shine once again....

@fancelot, i agree the 9xxx series is crap, and the 4870 is a great card, but out preforming gtx 280 not really man, u might want to do a little more research there.... granted maybe on a few games the 4870 will outpreform the gtx series, but generally speaking the 4870 does not have the preformance of the gtx 280...... but ati has released some crap series in the past as well... just as nvidia has... right now they are about on par with one another on the preformance area, and ati has always been a little cheaper, but nvidia has always had the option to preform better if you dont mind paying a little extra..... no im not an nvidia fanboy, or ati fanboy... im not knocking either card or company... but just clearing things up.

@g3n3r41xan yeah man, im not a fanboy of either, i have mainly been neutral between the two, and im glad they are good competition for each other, ati and nvidia i mean, but i like nvidia just a little better, though i honestly have gone from one to the other over the 22 years of gaming i have done lol... and either choice anyone picks whether it be a 38xx series, or 48xx series of ati, or the 8800 series - or gtx 260-280 series, are all great choices honestly, none of them are bad videocards, and they will all have you gaming like "oh yeah, omg did you freaking see that explosion?" lmao, right now i have two 8800gt OCX (factory overclocked) in 16x 16x sli, and it will do anything i want and will play the games high-max at 55+ frames per second on any game out, and comming out anytime soon, though i know if i want to keep playing at high-max im gonna have to upgrade GPU's here in about 6-8 months or so.. but buy then the gtx280s will be a lot cheaper... and ill run 2 of them in sli. and it will out preform my dual 8800gt sli configuration.... and next year once they release faster quad core cpu's ill get one then but until then, my amd athlon dual core 64 x2 6000+. oc at 3.25ghz will do anything i want, games dont even utilize quad cores yet... but it wont be long....

sorry for the many posts just clearing things up, yes i agree that gamespot is biased, yes prolly towards nvidia and intel, though honestly graphics i choose nvidia like i have said before, but cpu i choose amd.. but gamespot is biased on alot of game reviews too, i mean gta4 came out with a perfect 10.0, but yet in the review it said "It's not without some flaws, but GTAIV is undoubtedly the best Grand Theft Auto yet." if it has flaws it is not perfect now is it??? lol so i agree that gamespot may be biased, but the readers are as well, if not more so, no matter the website or company reviewing, someone is always gonna think they are biased no matter which party the review said was better.... and that is a fact...

@curcica umm no 32 is not, i can tell the difference between 30 and 60 a whole lot actually. but anything over the 55-65 fps mark, the human eye cannot tell the difference, but i totally agree that 110 is no visual improvement to the human eye over 60fps.

bottom line in general for most gaming the 4870x2 in crossfire, runs on-par with the gtx 280 in sli, granted on some games one may do better, and on other games the other may do better, but they are still that on par, if i were to say one was slightly better on preformance it would be gtx 280.

@g3n3r41xan see man you have to understand marketing and sales.... Nvidia reduced the price of their gtx cards once the 48xx series of ati came out.... but it works on the flip side as well... many people dont realize this and i dont see why not... if ati released the 48xx series before the gtx just like nvidia did, then once nvidia released its gtx series ati would lower the price of the 48xx series, its called marketing... lol fact of the matter is this... is ati starting to stomp nvidia??? no they are not. they are starting to become some good competition though.... ati is better on the price aspect... but still great preformance, dont get me wrong im not knocking ati. and nvidia costs more and preforms a little better, but streight up if you want super preformance, and cost is not that much of an issue then nvidia is the way to go. i already have my sli 16x and 16x (not typical 8x 8x), 8800gt OCX, but lmao since i built this pc cost has become an issue with all the guitar equipment i aim to get, which is why im getting my girl an ati 3850 card, and her on board is ati, so i figured have her stick with ati... for under a 100 dollars you cannot beat teh 3850, and i mean under 100 dollars before any rebates lol. under $100 3850 all the way..

@xsoulreaver main reason why ati doesnt cause it uses alot more software emulation than nvidia, second its funny when the gtx 280 a single GPU card, when you put it in SLI, out preformed the 4870 x2 (with 2 gpu's on each card) in crossfire in every game they tested here except the game in which sli or crossfire did nothing what so ever to preformance... so the x2 from ati, and the gx2 from nvidia were more marketing ploys than anything.... and ps... benchmarking means nothing to a real gamer, its how the cards actually preform while the games are being played Nvidia ftw.... though that being said i will say with all due respect, ati is finally starting to step it up a notch and actually be competition... but if ati's main selling point on these cards is the benchmarking, and not actual true preformance in games.. then so be it, and ill stick with nvidia. but that being said, im about to get my girl friend, an ati 3850 or 3870(depending on price situation at the time) and upgrade her from intergrated gpu, to one of the stated above cards, and over any intergrated gpu, the 38xx series will significantly multiply the preformance of her games.
