I fail to see how the colour of a protagonist's skin would change the premise of said character. You can make a black Commander Shepard - Caucasian, Asian, Hispanic - whatever, but the game plays exactly the same. Gender's a bit more complicated but only because it's under such scrutiny. No one can do it right, apparently. Ellie, Lara, Elizabeth - all contemporary examples of great characters that have been bashed because of <insert generic trope here>.
Until there's a supremely polished Day Z-like game, or an amazingly refined co-op zombie game (MMO-structured or otherwise), or an emotionally driven single player game like the Dead Island trailers (not the games), then no, keep them coming.
@krayzie88 @Trialkiller24 They've had time to tweak it/work it, so I hope they do. It can't be too hard to balance it by throwing infected in the midst every so often, rather than have an entire mode dedicated to them. (Definitely need more modes, regardless)
@udubdawgz A separate entity? Believe it or not alot of players prefer having even the prospect of multiplayer, that's why you all rage about it being added to 'all your single-player games'. I agree, if it's tacked out and pointless (Tomb Raider) then leave it out - but for the majority of people it adds to the game.
As for separating, that doesn't change the issue. The same amount of resources would go into both as if they were a single game, yet the prices to develop them separately would rocket. Not to mention how much sales would suffer/costs would inflate, further making the dev poor and unable to make any games, until all your left with is no SP or MP. What you're suggesting would probably collapse the triple A market more.
tl;dr I get it - you don't like MP, that's fine. Many do. There's a reason they're consistently put into games. And, unless there's good reason for me to believe it's tarnished the quality of the SP experience, I am 100% fine with it, especially if it leads to more sales and sequels/gambles on new IP's.
I don't get the multiplayer hate.. I really don't. It might suck, but it might be good. ME3 and Last of Us' did it very well, easily squeezing extra bang for your buck. If you don't like it, whatever, don't play it, but odds are the resources used on MP would just go onto cut DLC content you wouldn't buy. The way most of them work is that the story is told, it's done. The story isn't going to be caught short or elongated depending on whether there's MP or not; there's always a start, finish, and an end. (especially if it's done by separate studios, which it is.)
@19James89 @G-Corleone I enjoy it. It has its own 'originality' and the mechanics/gameplay all fit together. I agree that it doesn't have as much longevity as other MP games, but it's easily gotten an extra dozen or so hours of gameplay for me, which makes spending £40 even more worth it.
