I have a friend who uses an old PSP 1000 series (Piano Black) who groused at me at some point about receiving error messages when they were updating their firmware through a UMD game. They solved the problem by downloading the update to their PC and connecting to Media Go to perform the update. Hopefully this method might work similarly for you, too. If that doesn't work: If you have any other older games on UMD that are older than Dissidia, try popping one of them into your PSP and seeing if they come with firmware updates. If they do, try upgrading your firmware from an older game and then try working your way up to the most current version.

[QUOTE="RACiEP"]

That doesn't mean anything. The Vita is a HANDHELD. It's not a full-out console. When has a handheld ever been such a ridiculous price? Don't give me any BS about inflation or something like that. The DSi XL launch price was $190. I believe the PSP launch price was also $250, but it INCLUDED a memory stick, there was internal memory, and the memory cards weren't as insanely priced.

The PSP launch bundle came with a 32mb memory card(yay, enough for a 20 minute episode of something...almost), so that's hardly worth mentioning. Also, the DSi XL was just a version of the DS, so of course it won't be the same price as a full next gen portable. The 3DS on the other hand was $250 at launch before it flopped. The Vita is pretty much doing exactly what the PSP did. However I don't think it will work out well for Sony, and they will probably have to drop the price as the 3DS did.

Despite the price point, Sony reported that the original PSP did well in sales during its launch phase though perhaps not as awesome as they might have hoped. To my recollection, though, Sony never significantly dropped the price of the console afterwards - at least, not until they had released the later models? I remember wanting the PSP when it was first launched and then waiting for the price drop to happen because I thought the pricing was a bit steep... and then being disappointed when it didn't - at least, not really.

Given how business models work and given how product life cycles go, it doesn't seem quite fair to compare a new console with an older console that's been out for a few years now. As someone else mentioned, the original PSP came out for $250 and Memory Sticks / storage media were even more expensive then than they are now and game titles weren't exactly cheap, either. $250 back then is more than $250 now and the Vita, like the original PSP 1000, features advanced technology that puts it on the forefront of handheld gaming that gives it a greater appeal to the more hardcore gamers. Given the specs of the Vita along with the selection of game titles available for the launch period, I don't think it would be unreasonable to suggest that it's a device geared towards a more mature demographic and in particular, those who are more serious about their gaming and who would be willing to drop the cash needed. In relation to this and Sony's decision on pricing, Shuhei Yoshida mentioned in an interview that: "We are totally happy with the price we put out. Personally, I was expecting Nintendo might move their price, but I wasn't expecting them to move at this time. We didn't price Vita relative to 3DS or those other devices. We plan the value we want to put in to the Vita and the price people would perceive the value would be. Nothing changed since the announcement. We are totally happy." That aside, I can't personally justify purchasing the Vita for a few reasons. - I bought my current PSP bundle back in 2009 when Dissidia came out (2+ years ago, but still fresh enough for me) - There aren't any games I'm terribly gung-ho about yet and I still have plenty of games I'm playing on my PSP right now - I dislike the usage of yet another new proprietary storage media method and am unwilling to shell out the money for it at this time I don't mind the price on the device itself. I don't mind the price of the games. However, the appearance of yet another new proprietary storage method irks me a lot. On the other hand, I have a feeling that future devices from Sony - consoles, cameras, PDAs/datapads, etc - will be moving to the same storage method, so the Vita might just be one of the first devices to make use of this push to a new line of storage methods.

I beat Fallout 3... I'm going back to mop up some achieves... I honestly didn't like the game... I liked the story well enough I guess... but it's not anywhere near the godness everyone seems to bestow upon it.waflerevolution
What didn't you like about the game? Or rather, what about it was too much hype and not enough substance? For me, as I am very much a 'collector' sort of gamer, I really enjoyed wandering around and poking into everything I could to find random items (especially bottlecaps). To be honest, I probably liked that better (along with the storyline) than the actual shoot-the-monsters part myself. I had a few issues with balancing my instinct with what my HUD was telling me (or NOT telling me as some cases were) and at some points, it seemed that I was spending most of my time simply wiping the screen clean of monsters and nothing else. I liked the 'openness' of the Missions - that I could wander into other territories/areas despite not being at the 'right level' for it - but at the same time felt that it was sometimes too easy to wander away and outside of the storyline. Just my 2 cents. :)

I finished up Remix 6 on Rhythm Heaven (the 'official' end of the game before the credits start rolling) and unlocked 20 more 'Part 2' games which are all variations of some the 30 previous minigames completed - w00t! I finished with mostly Superbs (edit: and around 50% Perfects) which I am proud of and as it is a rhythm game, there is no way to possibly cheat on it so I can say that my sense of rhythm has improved, too, during the time I have played this game. :)

I'm pretty happy with what I managed to pick up. :) Question/Thoughts: With all the new consoles or new add-ons for current consoles, do you think the prices for the games for the older consoles are going to drop even more than they have already currently dropped? Do you think the price drop is happening already (yes, I realize that the winter holidays have just passed, so there is that to account for) or do you think there's still further for the prices to go down? Obviously, I'm not talking about certain collector's items that generally go up in price after they've been discontinued.

Haven't posted anything in here in a long while, so I thought I would give an update on some of my newest acquisitions :) - Lunar: Silver Star Harmony (Limited Edition Boxed Set) / PSP = $17.13 new - Tekken 6 / PSP = $9.99 new - Me & My Katamari / PSP = $9.99 used - Luigi's Mansion / GC = $12.99 used - Lumines / PSP = $7.99 new - Rhythm Heaven / NDS = $7.50 new - Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies / NDS = $17.88 new - Pokemon: HeartGold (Wal-Mart Limited Edition Boxset w/Pokewalker Jacket and Figurine) / NDS = $20.50 used The Lunar boxset is something I had meant to pick up a long time ago but never did. I chanced upon a great opportunity to do so and got it brand new for a great price and I bought Tekken along with it. The Katamari was a surprise find at my local GameStop. I think someone actually mislabeled the price on it, but oh well; I got the cheaper price and the box and manual and game are all in excellent condition and it's a fun game besides. At the same local GameStop, I found Luigi's Mansion complete with near-pristine box and manual. The Rhythm Heaven was another surprise find at Target on their bargain shelf around Christmas. I already own a copy but couldn't pass up the opportunity to own a brand new copy for even less than what I had originally paid for my older copy. Along with Rhythm Heaven I found Dragon Quest, which ended up being a Christmas present for a sibling. Pokemon HeartGold was an eBay purchase and also a surprise. Originally, I had thought that the seller was just selling the game itself along with the Pokewalker. Little did I know that what they were selling was the actual Wal-Mart boxset that included the Pokewalker jacket and Ho-Oh figurine. The box packaging was a bit squashed, but everything was there and everything was in near pristine condition.

Duck Hunt. No, seriously. The freakin' dog gave awesome incentive to shoot the freakin' ducks the first time through.

I see mostly young kids playing it to, but me and my friend (were both teens) play it together sometimes and other teens at our school play it but are picked on for some odd reason, i mean they play xbox all the time (I rarely play xbox now) and they make fun of these kids who bring it to school (me and my friend dont bring it so were not picked on. I mean whats wrong with a handheld system?

atmmachine11
Absolutely nothing. Then again, some kids get picked on because they DO have such things and the other kids don't. That's always another possible reason for getting picked on - sheer jealousy. Also, back to what I said in an earlier post about stigma, some people associate gamers with geeks and nerds and as we all know, geeks and nerds at school tend to not be 'cool'. But really. Screw 'em. There's honestly nothing wrong with a handheld system.

Ironically, crunchy is a P.I.T.A.

I prefer soft. What's the point of having everything wrapped up if it's all going to break apart as soon as you take a bite?

StopThePresses
I agree. Taste-wise, I prefer the crunchy tacos, but convenience-wise, I prefer the soft tacos. I LOVE the real Mexican crunchy tacos on the small flat crunchy tortillas, but I hate how the tortilla always likes to break apart or break off. :? The best crunchy tortillas are light and well... crunchy and so tend to break apart really fast which is a bummer if you're eating it without a plate or something to catch all the good stuff on. But see, if I get soft tacos, then I might as well get myself a burrito.
