Or people really wanted to get Skyrim: Legendary Edition. For more than four hours (since that's when I remember that) the glitch was fixed so unless you have proof that Skyrim scored big enough during the glitch all I can say is maybe people only wanted the game more than the others. I know I would've voted for it regardless of the glitch because I love the Elder Scrolls games and would also like the Legendary Edition since I was so stupid enough to grab the standard edition.

Fine, they did start with Half Life but as you said Tripwire and that other company started as simply modders and there is no denying Valve's strong support and backbone in modding. Also, while they may not have started modding games a few of their games wouldn't be around if not for modding (CounterStrike, Half Life ((started as a mod I believe but soon got picked up and backed up to be a full fledge game)), Team Fortress, Dota 2 ((not their game but you get the idea))).
