@Runock People like you are the reason I don't play online. For some reason, when shrouded in complete anonimity, some folks just turn in to complete and utter *add your favorite swear-word here". I may be old-fashioned, but I just don't understand what you could possibly gain from trying to hurt people, that have done absolutely nothing to deserve it.

@BSEE10 "When nobody seems rational"? You actually wrote that? Well, prepare for more "gungho"-action, then, cos' that's just straight up arrogant. Anyhoo, you seem to portray feelings of annoyance and frustration caused by the fact, that this article works on several levels. I can only repeat myself by saying that some find it stimulating to ponder these meta-layers and others - like you I'd wager - want straight talk or none at all. Sure, Poison is just a videogame character, and the Mona Lisa is just a painting of a woman sitting and staring. In no way incorrect statements but, oh, how dull life would be, if we didn't scratch the surface now and again.

@BSEE10 Ok, so you can't relate to the fact, that some people (including myself) sometimes see videogames as excellent forms of escapism. And you're confused with this whole self-reflection in a game business. Well, what can I say to that? That's just YOUR thing, and you can do with it as you want. To me and to many people, this article is both relevant and interesting. You're not one of them. There really isn't an argument here.

@BSEE10 No, it's an article about an issue that arose regarding the sex of a videogame character called Poison, written by a woman, who has a personal interest in the matter. The fact that you wanna go all Doctor Phil about Carolyn Petit, is your own choice, but do not pass on your own interpretation of this story as any kind of fact.

@BSEE10 Why? Why can't Carolyn write this article? She's transgender and has lived a life as such, and then we have this controversy with Poison and strange censorships etc regarding her sex. It makes perfect sense! Yes, it IS her opinion, but it's always like that. To be complete and utterly objective is a folly. When you read a review, you get the writers opinion on that game. When you read a preview, you get the impression of the game seen through the eyes of whoever played the game. That's just the way it is. In short, if you don't want things to get personal from time to time, your problem is with the written word as we know it.

@foxrock66 Now, don't get me wrong, I do see where you're coming from. You seem to be way beyond this, and waiting for the world to catch up, and maybe someday it will. But as it is, these things DO stir up emotions, and it's important to talk about why that is instead of just encouraging people to pack such things away in some personal blog somewhere, which is pretty much like preaching to the choir (did I get that right?). You're perception that Carolyn and Gamestop is just trying to stir up debate and create a lively forum is - in my opinion - a very cynical opinion. Carolyn is transgender and finds this story about Poison.. How could she NOT write this article? As a journalist AND a person?

@foxrock66 Curse you and your friendliness! Did not know about the thumbs up. But, I must say, that I simply do not agree with your overall point. The gaming world wants to be regarded as an equal art-form to music and movies. And it's getting there. And just like with movies and music, the debate will sometimes branch out, when something "controversial" pops up. Sure, if you just wanna check scores and release dates, this is probably quite the annoyance, but if you take a step back and regard the fact, that we are even having this discussion on a gaming website, you should find that it's a healthy sign. People now care more about what the games are all about eventhough it has absolutely no impact on the gameplay. Games are finally trancending the border of "simple entertainment" and into the realm of respected artform, that - like all respected artforms - will sometimes have to answer for itself when it makes curious choices.

@foxrock66 You're kinda enjoyable, in a head-up-own-arse sorta way. Now, I'll walk you through this: scroll up, yes, with your mouse. You there yet? Ok, sweetheart, now.. can you see all them different links with fun words like "PS3" and "PC" and such? Good, click on them and go read what you want. You don't HAVE to read the things you aren't interested in, you know? It's a free country and you do seem to have at least the opposable thumbs required to operate your internet device, away from here, and on to the things you enjoy.
