If you're worried about someone looking at your porn all you have to do is disconnect the hard drive and store that in there, not the entire computer.istuffedsunny

[QUOTE="FreakyDeacky2"]
the card doesnt shut down, the power supply itself shutsdown when its overloaded if its a crap PSU it may not even have one and can kill his hardware right off the bat so it can hurt to try guys.

never skimp on a PSU shure you saved a 100 bucks but that doesnt mean crap when lost $300+ worth of hardware now does it?
save the gambling for vegas, your odds are better there anyways

GTR12

The card does shutdown, or it turns off cores.

Nvidia warning

again u dont know what your talking about. that card seriesitself was defective and wasntdrawing enough power foritself so it downclocked but the rest of the computer was still within the power requirements thats not a problem for the psu. BUT when the computers total power usage exceeds the capability of the output of the psu and starts to draw more than its maximum sustained output can last for it will turn off because A the built in safety in PSU (if its decent) B because a critical component for the fucntioning of the computer lost power and ceased functioning IE the CPU

example lets say your gaming and your using 550 watts and your psu is rated for 500 sustrain 575 maximum output for say 5 mins well your pc was using 550 when it max output cycle ended and your cpu is underpowered midinstruction and your pc shutsdown, simple as that

hmm..okay, thanks guys for the replies.. one last question, will my resolution benefit from 2gb 6950 (future-proof wise)?? or should i just get the 1gb version?

redwarrior191

the 2gb model of a 6950 will do better than the 1gb model at comparable antialiasing levels more video memory the higher you can max your post processing effects = nicer picture and the less the core clock and shaders will have to devote to the post processing its vitally important to have mroe video memory if your gonna have a multi monitor setup , thats one of the reasons the 5970 didnt do so well was because it only had 1gb of video memory to devote to post processing per gpu

ID say go with the 2gb causethey have a higher success rate ofbiosflashing to 6970 andyou can make the pciture look nicer and you can always upgrade your screen personally i use a an LG tv

andGTR* the 560ti and 6950 are the sweet spot of the graphics card industry the perfect price to performance ratio they can handle any game on the market and future ones to boot at medium to high settings

theres no reason that the 32 bit of windows wouldnt workwith that card if theres an error in windowsId would tell you to just reinstalled windows first, Remember though that we pretty much narrowed it down to the GFX card your older card overlcocked no problem something in the bios of the new card wasnt working right thats my guess.

if theyre making you pay for 64bit and it doesnt fix the issue DEMAND that they upgrade you to a card above that one. Ill be honest with you most of the places frys microcenter bestbuy the guys dont know jacksh*t and theyll string you along for more money especially if theyre on commission.

back in the day 90s early early 00s matrox used to make video cards, they still might but lately theyve been focusing on making multimonitor setups on pcs that would otherwise not have the hardware to support it, I wouldnt mind more competitors in the graphics card business but that pretty much died with the 3dfx and its Voodoo Cards
