There is a stickied thread for these sort of questions in the PC games forum.

lol lets put a copy of that sticky in this subforum to curb the rest fo these type of threads

[QUOTE="Brean24"]

I am redoing my overclock in a attempt to lower temps. I am at 4.0 right now and temps are around 56C at load and 35C idle, compared to 40C idle and 65C load the last time I overclocked it. I set the voltage to 1.2 instead of the auto setting that I used last time. I also lowered the ambient temperature of my room. I am about to raise the clock speed to 4.3 again, what is the lowest voltage I could set it to without being unstable?

ravenguard90

No one can tell you. Every chip is different in terms of overclockability. Best way to find out is to creep up the voltage settings bit by bit as you overclock in order to find out the absolute minimum. Or, you can set it to what you had before, and slow drop your voltages until you've hit the point where any lower causes instability.

+1

alternatively see if you can add more case fans and if you cant look into superior case fans but remember to factor in their noise level

ok i don't say you have to buy the gtx 590 , a gtx 580 would be more reasonable in your pc. But since you want to give away your pc to your family (that's very nice of you) and you only play on 1280 x 1024 then i should stick with that setup you already posted. You can even cut costs and buy an x4 955 or x 965, all depends what you want of course. and to hartsick I was saying a minimum of 2.8 ghz per core. A quad of 2.8 ghz will perform better than any dual core. A 2.8 ghz octacore won't perform better than a 4 ghz quad core but only because games aren't optimized for octacores and the octacore's performance will be sufficient , the difference with the quad core will be slight.evildead6789

that last bit is true but as time goes on that quad core will show its age when they start optimizing the games for hexa and octo cores, an arguement here can be that the octo has a longevity advantage and will outperform the quad year by year as the new games become optimized for it, im sure bf3 will either have out of the box optimization for 6 cores if not the 8 core bulldozers and if they dont a simple patch could do it.

the 6900 series light years ahead of the 4800 series, AMD has done alot of improvement since then

[QUOTE="GTR12"]

Is this a pre-built computer?

you keep stating OEM which leads me to believe it is.

Enaver

By the parts one by one.

If i dont get this part instead of the one ive got, will it make that much more of a difference?

if i were you i would keep saving my money for the high end of sandy bridge called Ivy bridge they will be loads faster and if you keep the money you have already and keep saving youll have a rig that run circles around the sandy bridge ur gonna make and it wont even break a sweat and its gonna be 22nm.
