This article should have been fake. I wish it had. I really couldn't give a crap about two craps about a Starcraft II player, or any other "professional" game player. I've never heard of the guy, and I still don't care that I have. There's a reason they aren't celebrities: professional game playing is boring as a "sport." I love video games to death, and I love watching people play them, but there is no comparison to any celebrity status. It also just makes people who play video games stupid that one has an "injured shoulder" and can't play Starcraft. It's making the stereotype worse. I'll feel much better to never see an article like this again, ever.

@MUKUSS If you're looking for those things, you'll want to play a different game. Needing to rely on teammates and feeling so helpless and afraid of specials is what makes Left 4 Dead fun, interesting, and unique. Breaking free of infected would just make the player feel like a tank, and there's plenty of games that will do that.

I am a little disappointed that they used a beta screenshot from L4D2 though. Why? The game's been out for a long time, there's no reason to use an old, dumpy screenshot with pre-release polish.

This is a big difference from the earlier report. Although it's still a cash grab, at least it's not a "Hey, screw you guys!" cash grab like a subscription would have been.

I'll be getting more skeptical of any news reports from Gamespot now, that's for sure. If there was no solid information for a subscription service yesterday, why make the article say it was almost a definite? Do some more research before trying to break a story first.

Just when BF3 was really impressing me and I was hailing how good it felt to play, they do something like this. It's really a shame that not only will a company do this, but that we as consumers let them.

This is one more example of why single-player portions of games should not be tied to online servers. I didn't expect something like this to happen, but for people who paid out the nose for the game and had no idea they would be locked out, this sucks.

I can't imagine playing the 360 version over the PC version. I very much adore Minecraft, I just can't see it being worth it on 360. That said, congratulations to the team for making a success! A big turn-on for PC players would be the promise of frequent updates to keep it competitive with the PC version.

You don't have to approve of Minecraft or the games Notch creates. You do have to realize and accept that he loves making games, he loves making them better, and he loves doing it with community input. Anyone who has watched how Minecraft grew will realize how the community around it shaped it and gave it life, and how openly Notch accepts input, feedback, criticism, and modding, even when the game isn't itself built for mods! It's the creativity he loves seeing! EA doesn't even MAKE games, they simply buy big publishers and ruin their ability to remain gamer-friendly.

@TaintedMindz Please explain how he's a hypocrite? Notch represents creativity, deep community integration, transparency, and a love of gaming. EA represents greed, cynicism, money, and and a love of profit. You do not start name calling people with absolutely no explanation.

So buy one separately and save $40 (or more if you don't go two years with the subscription) or go for broke and buy a low-level model for more? Not seeing the bargain here. I'm glad to pay for my Live subscription because of its features and reliability, but throwing it here under the guise of $99 purchase is pretty dishonest.

When you have a "comprehensive FAQ" solely about fees, you're gonna have a bad time. Blizzard makes some mean games, but this is the biggest scumbag move I've seen by a game company so far. Here's hoping you guys see the corruption behind this move, and here's hoping the consumers don't rampantly spend money in these auction houses and feed the greed. Bottom line: the spoils should go to the victor, not the one with the most real cash.
