Alright so here's the deal...
My xbox RRoD'd the other day, this is only my second box in 3 1/2 years. Unfortunetly my extended warranty expired 6/21/09 and my purchase date was 6/14/06, so it has been over three years.
From what I'm seeing online it seems that the 3 year RRoD warranty starts from the purchase date regardless of whether or not you bought the extended warranty from microsoft. Is this correct? Doesn't it seemwrong that both warranties ran concurrently?
My main question is am I gonna have to pay 100 to get this thing fixed now?
I'm really considering just attempting to fix this thing myself, or just buying a new arcade model for 200 and putting my hardrive on there. At least that would come with another 3 year RRoD warranty...
Anyone else have experience in a similar situation? How difficult is it to fix on my own? Tips, suggestions?

An epic single player campaign will always be better than multiplayer.ethanpaige
Most def, multiplayer is just to breath life back into the game after the single player mode is completed.
You could try out Phantasy Star Universe on the 360. It's not exactly a mmo, more like an online rpg. No wide open worlds like most mmo's, just a series of lobbies and missions. The lobbies are open, but the missions are closed to 6 players at a time. There is an expansion that came out last year, you can download it on the marketplace. The expansion is basically a necessity as most of the popular missions and the best gear is all expansion only.
The game has been out for 2 years this October so keep in mind the game is starting to get to that point of decline. The game has some flaws, but it has kept me playing for the entire 2 years. The subscription fee runs ten dollars a month.
If you're willing to wait awhile, Huxley and Champions Online are supposed to come out sometime next year.
The standard wired mics that come with the system are complete pieces of garbage. I'm on my third and I've only had my 360 for 2 years. That may not sound like a lot but considering I rarely use the mic and put it away when I'm done, it is kind of ridiculous.
It might not be completely dead yet. Try turning off/on the controller and then plug in the mic again. That works sometimes, other times it just seems to randomly start working again. This is exactly what started happening to my mics before each of them crapped out, so basically, the inevitable is coming.
I've heard from a few people the wireless mics are a lot better in terms of quality, so you might want to check those out. I'll probably be doing the same once my current mic breaks.
