I really could care less if gay people want to marry, however I don't think a mayor alone should make the decision for everyone of whether or not a company can be allowed to serve it's customers in their area.

Toxic-Seahorse
Well the mayor doesn't actually have to power to keep them out. They can do what they want, he's just making a statement that he doesn't like them.

Can't the city refuse to give them a license to operate there? Or am I mistaken? That would be more than just the mayor, but he certainly holds a lot of power to sway opinion among officials.

Except prices would reflect that...

That's what you idiots who have no basic understanding of economics don't understand. If the wages are set at equilibrium, than prices will reflect that. Want an atrificial wage? Well, you're going to get an artificial price of goods, which means less buying power.

If not, then why NOT have the minimum wage set at $20?

SpartanMSU

How does a company decide what price to sell something at?.

Supply and Demand...

So, you know demand exists, but you just choose to ignore it?

hahaha no..... if anything they should lower it so people can get more jobs.

SpartanMSU

Then everyone would be subject to it.

So instead of 10 people have great paying jobs while 2 are in wait, it would be 12 bad paying jobs.

People that answer yes in the poll have no understanding of how economics work.

Raising the minimum wage is a bad thing, what happens is it devalues the currency and puts businesses, particularly small ones, in a very tough spot. They either have to cut hours, lay people off, or raise their prices (usually it's all 3).

When you raise the minimum wage all the prices on goods and services go up as well, so you arn't really getting paid any more, if it was $20 an hour than money would be worthless. Nothing good comes from raising the minimum wage, it hurts everyone, particularly poor people.

I dislike it when liberals and Democrats talk about trying to help poor people, but then they push for an increase in minimum wage. That does the exact opposite, and they know it. There is so much hypocrisy on both sides it's not even funny.

ShadowMoses900

That is some good conservative propaganda there. Obviously anyone who wants minimum wage to be fixed to inflation must be some kind of complete moron, because in your twisted little mind absolutely nothing good can come from increasing it. Any increase in minimum wage must lead to immediate mass job loss, prices going through the roof, and probably that super volcano under yellowstone erupting and killing us all. It could never ever stimulate spending. Only tax cuts for the rich help the economy. blah blah blah.

The real problem is that coporations and invetors have gotten to used to unlimited growth and ridiculous profit margins. It has created an environment where if investors and the upper echelon of these corporations arern't making millions upon millions of dollars that something is wrong. In order for such a minimum wage to work there would have to be a change in the curret climate at wall street and in order for that to happen the electorate and gov't has to grow a pair amd weather the economic repercussions as they ween these investors off the idea that they all need to be billionaires.

I remember admitting I was wrong on the health care debate here. (i was initially against it but changed my mind). It is quite liberating to just admit you were mistaken about something. I remember when I decided that I could no longer be a Christian (the faith I was raised in) that was like a load taken off my back. I also remember when I let rawsavon "just put the tip in a lil" and that was one mistake i never made again.

I believe it. Can you imagine all the government agencies, police, and prisons that would be out of a job if the drug war ended?

junglist101
I remember when we were declaring war on poverty and didn't worry so much about drugs. Maybe all that money and manpower could go to that instead.

I believe there are some good cops out there. I just haven't met any of them yet.
