Will our characters/records/quest mode transfer over or is this starting completely fresh?

We have been looking for a new game to play. This looks like it could fill the void that Harvest Moon left. I never played, only watched a few videos. Any thoughts?
I second Ocarina of Time. Sprite pop-ups like crazy. Mindless item fetching. Night/day switch-off way too quick. Lack of variety in wandering monsters. Just horrible.
What boggles my mind is how this strategy even arrived to the surface in the first place. These two companies must truly believe that we are nothing but lemmings lacking any ability to resist buying their product. I mean, they had to know what kind of reception a "feature" like this would be met with, and even now, with the resounding backlash of literally 99% of their market dead-set against this, it is still a realistic possibility?
People. Seriously. Don't you dare feed into this buy buying these products.
Motion controls will not take over completely. They will remain in the background as a nice supllement for parlor games. I am much more concerned wirh no more used games, no more discs, ect...
It might be a deal-breaker for me.
My number one wish is that everything (360 games, XBLA games, gamertag, score, ect) carries forward. I don't want the clutter of two consoles, hookups, controllers, ect under my television.
I can tell you what IS a deal-breaker though - not allowing used games to play. I will give a big middle-finger to the whole next generation of games if that happens and spend my time exclusively in the realm of nostalgia...orpossibly giving up video games as afocused hobby alltogether. That's just BS.
It's a port of a classic game that was largely popular at that time. It should be evaluated on the faithfullness of the port in one score and "today's standards in another score.
*gasp*
Imagine that! Two scores! Problem solves! The world might end!
For me the Wii was a disaster. I bought into it originally as a hardcore Nintendo fan, but quickly came to resent the direction they took with the Wii. For me to even consider looking at the Wii-U I would need the following, which are vastly unrealistic.
- motion controls fall to a secondary form of control only for party-style and fitess games (much like the Kinect)
- All the Virtual Console games that I bought transfer over for free and are updated to allow online multiplayer (Contra anyone?)
- Ditch the gimmicky controller with the screen and go back to a more comprehensive, classic controller
- They create games within their oroginal titles that pay tribute to the original formats, only with updated graphics/sound scope...give me Extreme Super Metroid, Zelda: ALTTP- style, ect
Basically I want Nintendo to feel like they did during the SNES, N64 and GC days only updated with next-gen capabilities and a decent online support.
