It's not officially over yet but these are the numbers as of right now for this generation of consoles, the 7th.
1. Wii - 99.8 Million
2. PS3 - 78.2
3. 360 - 77.9
http://www.vgchartz.com/ - updated weekly
The PS3 just surpassed the 360 the week before E3 and has steadily kept moving ahead of it over the last month. Whether you like it or not, Nintendo won this generation. You may not like family friendly games, waggle tech, or 1st person heavy development, but you can't argue with the numbers. The Wii also had the lowest fail rate, leading to longer lives of the hardware. The 360 and PS3 sales could be inflated by the sheer numbers of RROD or YLOD consumers who had to buy a new system instead of repairing or sending it in.
The overall leader is Nintendo with 3 console war wins. It won the 8-bit era, the 16 bit era, and the 7th generation. (6x system war winner if you count handheld)
Sony has won two console wars, the 5th and 6th with the Playstation 1 & 2. Sony has never place 3rd.
Microsoft has never won a console war. The Xbox beat the Gamecube for 2nd place in the 6th war by 2.3m
(The 360 is the 9th best selling console of all time)
Nintendo has won by a landslide, will win the third, all the handheld wars. The 3DS/PSvita is the third.
The best selling console of all time is the PS2 with 150 million hardware sales.
The best selling handheld and overall gaming device of all time is the Nintendo DS, with 153 million hardware sales.

Personally, I've always enjoyed all brands and games. It usually was a game that sold a system to me. One thing that will always remain is my adoration for Nintendo. You don't always have to M-rated content to be "cool". I'm 29 and still love Nintendo, as well as my 7 year old son. That being said, I have played a ton of Playstation, all of them. It's my favorite brand for gaming at this time, but I still enjoyed what Microsoft had to offer. I bought the Xbox for Fable, the 360 for Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey but loved and played a lot of 360 games as well. Gamerscore of over 40K.
I try not to be a fanboy at all but with this next generation about to hit I'll probably be a PS4/Wii U player. The only reason I might get a XB1 is for a third party exclusive like Lost Odyssey 2, or Blue Dragon 2. Huge fan of Hironobu Sakaguchi. I always have to have a Nintendo console, it's just a have to for me and my family. TLOZ, Mario, DK, Metroid, SSB... I always enjoy these titles.
I hope you enjoyed this post, took me a little bit to make it. If I had any typos or errors plz let me know.

1st not lvl 10
2ndThose numbers include PS2 sales
3rd Vgvharts lol
The only numbers that count are the offcial numbers released from Sony, MS and Nintendo and right now the Wii is 1st, 360 2nd and PS3 3rd. Until Sony comes out with numbers that have them ahead of the 360 it's still in last place.
Umm, did you watch E3? They officially stated that the PS3 surpassed the 360 in sales live. Also, I apologize that I'm not level 10, but I'm sure as hell qualified to post. I'm not a crazy fanboy looking for attention. The PS2 sales are part of the system war history, why would I exclude them? Like I've stated before, I do not believe these numbers are off. They may not be perfect but I do not see the placement being any different when it's over. I will update numbers accordingly if/when I find a site that's better. The criticism of vgchartz is a bit naive though.
