If you just own 1st copy of CoH and want to play Online, you will get an error message(download failed try again later). You have to download Patches from http://cohpatch.relic.com/

You must download patch 100-140 then 140-2101, 2101-2201, 2201-2202 ex...

13 patches total. last patch is 2601-2602.

This can get confusing, because later patches appear under the expasion games. There is no need to own them. Just download and install to the latest patch.
