[QUOTE="D3monchicken"][QUOTE="Meu2k7"][QUOTE="D3monchicken"][QUOTE="Meu2k7"][QUOTE="dhjohns"][QUOTE="Meu2k7"].... this "tapped power" nonsense again. They will look next to nothing better than they currently do.Meu2k7
I disagree with this assertion. I won't delve into the nomenclature of "tapped power" but devs will get better at optimizing for both consoles. Both consoles will have better looking games by 2011. How much remains to be seen.
Indeed, hence why I said "Next to nothing" ... 5-10% at tops... Gears of War to Gears of War 2 ... slightly smoother.
Optmization only goes so far, the hardware limits will keep it well below Crysis, and games such as Empire Total War.
Please... Look at Ps2 launch games and then head on over to Resi 4 and GoW2 :| Ps2 jumped quite a bit, as well as every other console. Denying how much of an effect optimization, better engines suited to design layouts of systems, etc, can have just shows that you aren't a developer and just assuming. The Ps2 launch games to Resi 4 and GoW 2 look way way way way way more than 5-10% better.
Sorry I dont see it, Resi 4 was not that much better than launch games. not hugely better, better yes... to any "zomg" extent no ...
After Final Fantasy 10... nothing looked better on the PS2 to me. it was that unoticable.
Seriously, do you own a ps2? Or have you from its launch? I remember playing this http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/evergrace/images.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gsimage&tag=images;img;4 . It's called Evergrace... Launch RPG. I'd say the end of the ps2's life has been a HUGE upgrade. Care to disagree? And a ton of games look better than final fantasy 10, you would also known this if you bought ps2 games -.-
Now show us a game like Tony Hawks 3 ... yea... showing the worst one you possible can doesnt help your case... or timesplitters, or that 3rd person RPG shooter ( Something Squad? ) cant remember :P
Firstly, Tony Hawk 3 was not a launch game.
Secondly, I think you are talking about X-Squad.
Lastly, every launch game looks terrible compared to the end of the cycle, so you still are just acting blind.
P.s.- I honestly can't fathom why you would choose x-squad or timesplitters as a point maker. Go back and look at all the screenshots of these games and then look at the best the ps2 has to offer. If you still don't see an huge upgrade you are blinded by your love for timesplitters (I loved it then too :D ).
