The PS2 without a doubt, however the Dreamcast is also a high quality system.

This is a very unusual claim to see in past tense system boards. Did you start gaming this gen? if not, I would like to know why you think this, something I rarely see.

I don't have a very large PS2 collection, I kind of dismissed the system for many reasons (like no Bomberman games, lack of serious games, to many hybrids, too many clones.) or so I assumed. I recently played Suikoden Iv and Dragon Quarter, and those were some pretty good games, so what are some other good Jrpgs, which is an annoying term to me btw, would I enjoy so then i can have an excuse to just grab games of any genre so i can build up my collection? You can write down sequels if you don't need knowledge of previous games at all or that much. Like the two games at the beginning of the thread. Thanks will check back later.

I am not going to lie, I don't like the Gamecube. To be even more honest you have to really convince me to even replay it. Bomberman Generations and Bomberman Jetters is not enough for me to buy the Cube. Heck, they are basically the same game except one is anime.

You can disagree all you want, and I respect your opinion. A pretty revolutionary thought to a lot of kids these days, especially on game forums, if you are not one of those people that's great.

Now with that being said, I tried to keep it civil by making a small joke that obvioulsy got you upset. I appolagize if it came across the wrong way, I never try to belittle another persons opinion about gaming.

Most people think that the generation they grew up playing in is the best whether it be nostalgia or opinion it really doesnt matter. You will never sway someones opinion of that, just like with politics. Someone could easily come along and say the best generation was 6th or 2nd, and they would be no closer to being right then either of us. I am glad your favorite generation was 5th, it is by far my favorite outside of 2D games.

Truce man. I have enough problems in life, so there is no need getting in virtual flame wars in a site I have been frequenting for over 5 years... lol

WitIsWisdom
Ok, so now because I like 5th gen 2D games more I was not born before 5th gen? I grew up during the end of first so yeah, I have no bias in saying that the 5th gen clearly has better and more high quality 2D games. Now with that said I would put 4th over 2nd and 3rd and 2nd over 3rd. PS2 generation lacked a lot of real 2D games opting for the 2.5D or the game with Flame Hyenard that shall not be named. that mixes both. This gen, I could see how someone could but I despise not having retail copies of games. To many ways to lost your games forever.

"Beyond Good & Evil. Great game, GREAT music.

MonkeySpot
Seems you still know your stuff. I completely forgot about Beyond good and Evil, had it on THE BOX. That game like Heart of Darkness had so much effort put to it I feel really bad for a lot of people who worked on it when it crashed. Even just being on one platform would not have actually done much to save it.

3rd and 4th are the best 2D for me. Although I respect your opinion. Some of those games are good while others are middle of the line at best, or worse than that... The list of good 2D games 3rd and 4th gen is about 100 times that length. However, if you are arguing the graphics of 2D games are better 5th gen., that has nothing to do with gameplay making this thread a moot point.

**I just re-read over the last part of your post and saw you said "some" of the best 2D games"**.....

ok, I guess that can not be debated in theory of opinion, as long as we all realize "most" came 3rd and 4th gen. lol.. jk man. To each their own.

WitIsWisdom
I disagree with your whole entire post and from my view point it's clear the 5th gen had the longer list. But I will not boil you in a pot of boiling acid. J/K, or was I supposed to put the J/K before the acid joke?

That's a great list of games, and the 5th generation was a great generation for 2D, for sure. But I can easily come up with a larger list of great 2D games from the 4th generation. And that's because the real focus of the 5th generation was the new-fangled 3D polygons. While on the other hand, most of the games and the main-focus of the 4th generation was 2D gaming which caused an atmosphere of competition that produced a LOT of great games. The 4th generation was the last generation of 2D focused gaming where everyone was competing in it.

Emerald_Warrior
This is a merry-go-round argument. I list only some games, and mentioned it just because I didn't feel like posting large lists, however one of your first reasons to deconstruct my topic title is that you can think of a bigger list. If I honestly wanted to list decent to highquality games I would have a larger list, then you would make a larger list, than I would make a larger, list, and it would be a waste of time because at the end you would start going into bubsy territory. Focus should not infect which games are better, there are many and more great high quality 2D titles on 5th gen systems, what I don't like is when, no offense to you not trying to stab you to death, when people disregard them because they were not the focus somehow making their quality shrink and vanish for no reason. Which is exactly what you did. The focus should have nothing to do with the amount or quality of 5th gen 2D games. They have no connection in reality and make no sense to use it as a reason. I think fondness, nostalgic memories, or lack of knowledge, which I don't blame you, of 5th gen 2D quality games even existing that much.

1.Myst, the game has atmospheric music and was ridiculously in depth compared to most other games.Anyone who played this could not even come close to saying games are kiddy, easy, not complicated, or unimmersive. 2.Adventure, the only Atari game after 50000 years that can still sell over a million by itself. 3.Homeworld, a franchise that does a lot of innovating but people do like it for changing from previous games to much yet, maintain the same high quality. 4.Bomberman TG16, got me into the bomberman games. 5.Wizardry, the best role-playing series of all time, and it ended with an nuclear explosions that knocked you across the world twice than on the opposite continent. Yes Wizardry 8 was that good. Damn japs need to stop making spin-offs, they kepe making the formula of the whole series look stale because they are so many calm down guys.
