The videogame industry is just that. An idustry. Obviously profits are going to come first and it's difficult for any creative director to make an opposing argument for the sake of a game's creative/innovative potential. I do believe, however, that a single great leap in the medium that allows games to be recognized as art could start a reaction that leads to a more artistic atmosphere in game design as a whole. We just need 1 developer to step up to the plate and have the guts to swing at the fastballs instead of bunting to first base.
