@mattcake: I agree in ways. People are clowning. I don't even mind the bad grammar though honestly. Compassion is good. I think a lot of people try to sound more interesting than they actually are. There is too much of that nowadays too. there is a lot of petty nonsense out there in general. I know these people just work for gamespot and are doing jobs and what they are told to do in ways and it's not that simple or easy. They still are clowns. I mean that in the best possible way too. They are working for a corporation though and don't realize certain things.
Like this game could be made better.
We are ending up with a lot of games like Destiny here that are that middle safe template ground but empty experiences. I'm not saying this game doesn't have the ability to be very good and doesn't do a lot of things well as far as scope. But it's missing something. It's disapointing for that reason. It is enjoyable and doing something different though. I'll give it credit for that. That's why it's disapointing though. They didn't go that extra step to make it truly great.
@mattcake: The problem with this is this is what people have become though. People used to make life more interesting and games too. They didn't have the graphics or budgets to work with either. This game is a hugely backed playstation exclusive and it misses the mark period imo. This is a huge issue with games in general. Life doesn't have to be that way. Listening to reviewers and the live streams last night, they try to make these games sound more interesting than they are. That's a problem and oxymoron in and of itself. They are just part of the machine instead of actually changing it.
Making something sound more interesting is very different than making it more interesting as well. I'm not saying what it may sound like here either.
Hyping up mediocrity is bad. People talking over it on live streams may make the experience more interesting in theory but it still doesn't change the fact it's a mediocre game and is pandering to people who know better.
Instead of thinking i'm some cranky old coot why don't these younger people actually take that humor and make things better instead of just being part of the machine? I look young for my age too for that reason because I know what it's like to go against the grain and actually have real integrity instead of pseudo intellectual nonsense.
If this game more than a 7 or 8 I'll be disapointed. I'm honestly fine that the game isn't star citizen. It's for people who don't want that complexity. It's intuitive in it's own way. I also don't care about story overall. I don't want Skyrim in space. Pretty soon all these games become all the same. Graphics are all good as well as exploration and collecting stuff. The game is serene and has that feel to it. Space combat and flying is really well done. It seems like space battles are some of the better parts of the game. Different weapons and you can collect different material to buy different ships. Varying weather and the scale of the game is nice. The issue I have that has been stated here in ways is that there is just something missing and predictable about the game. I also think the reviewer here is kind of sugar coating it. A lot of us have seen all the "good planets" in trailers and spending hours exploring lesser than planets to find the good ones is what this game ultimately is. There is something very empty about the game overall and predictable. It's missing something. It has some puzzles mixed in and different secrets, but I don't know how to accomplish that overly whether it's through humor or more personality or different more creative things going on on planets. It would be cool if they had earth and more civilized societies where different things happen and humor mixed in. Right now this game is just a serene exploration and collection game. I also don't want a part 2 where they just add more life and variety.
Compared to other games this game is probably deserving of an 8 for all it does right, but at the same times games should be reviewed on how good they are. Some things the game does great but is it really a great game overall? The issue to me is most games are reviewed too high. This game is deserving of an 8 compared to games like AC Syndicate that get 9's. I think this game is more deserving than that. I don't think it is a great game as it stands. I've watched the live streams and I figure if I buy it at this point it will put me to sleep.
This looks better than the usual. Seems to be a bit focused on collecting and exploration though without much going on. I wish games improved on other things instead of dumbing down and the artsy stuff.
Eh. Not really my thing. I like the environment better than journey although I'm not a huge fan of these games. This review also seems so subjective. These games are way too artsy and almost preachy in ways. So is this review. Reminds me of yogis. Yoga is good in spurts but as a religion some of those people can be more annoying than helpful. Nice graphics though but games that are built solely on exploration aren't that great imo.
This game makes me happy. I'm curious what the name no man's sky means. I feel like it's a loveletter to us overlooked gamers that have been imagining something different amidst all the same stuff in gaming. It might not be everything I imagined but at least it's something different and appealing. Not just different for the sake of being different. It's actually appealing.
