The texture resolution hasn't improved that much...

Wasdie
That would probably be because the PS3's only got 256 MB of VRAM

[QUOTE="ArchoNils2"]

The part with the 100% usage of the cell is just dumb, I can write a programm that uses 100% of any CPU/GPU within minutes by having an endless loop. But the 3x more polygons sounds nice. Anyone know how much I loose of that quality by playing it 3D?

DJ_Lae
Yeah, every time I see a developer talk about how much of a processor they're using I just shake my head. There's no reason to use anything but 100% in a console game, any extra gains simply come from optimizing the code. And you can't quantify that.

You can quantify that, actually. The amount of polys pushed for instance, the number of pixels rendered per frame, number of distinct light sources, texture resolution, etcetera. And then there's qualitative measures like ray tracing or deferred rendering, high dynamic range, etcetera.

That's pretty beast, maybe if they didn't copy Call of Duty's level up/perk nonsense this would be a really great game. The singleplayer will probably be great.

COD is popular because it caters to the lowest common denominator.

[QUOTE="Miroku32"][QUOTE="frostybanana"]It's not that epic, to be honest. If you've never played WoW before, go for it. But there's nothing entirely new here that you didn't get with any of the other expansions, so if you've played before, save your money.frostybanana
Cata in some ways is like vanilla WoW, ppl now cant stand on fire and healers must watch their mana instead of spamming the same spell over and over again. I say dungeons are quite good but there are few so it gets repetitive after a while. And now, forget all the ppl who qq, Cata isnt hard, they just got accostumed to WoTLK.

In some ways yes. But they can never really go back to the way it used to be because the players are very different and much broader now. Difficulty-wise, it's still not hard, no. A lot of it is gear dependence more than skill dependence though and that's where I'm most put off.

It's easy to balance gear dependence, though, by only giving high tier gear to people who complete the most challenging encounters. Then, put harder gear behind the heroic modes of those same encounters. That way you can still make the encounters require skill until you get geared off challenging encounters.

Do you mean that the encounters don't require skill, but only require like large health/mana pools and high DPS, instead of actual tactics/positioning/CC? Like they just require brute force?

I haven't played Cata, so I'm asking because I don't know.

You've shown it to be false because a few years back somebody knew it was good for something yet you have not brought any real evidence to show to anybody that this PS3 hack is actually for homebrew development. This board has been flooded with people saying PS3 games are becoming unplayable, other game boards (which I can't mention due to our own policies) have been flooded with people wanting the hacks to pirate games.

Wasdie

I'm not arguing that it is actually for homebrew development, but it certainly can be used for that purpose.

George Hotz himself said that he wanted to get OtherOS back on PS3, and does not support piracy. Certainly there are pirates out there, as there are on all platforms. That doesn't mean that everyone wanting to hack PS3 is a pirate as you have claimed and cannot possibly support.

For instance, there are legitimate users that seek to remove copy protection on games they purchased when the copy protection prevents them from playing them as designed. Do you support that kind of modification?

You're saying that the PS3 has other uses yet I've already given you examples of better hardware than the PS3. I believe anybody who pushes for the PS3 hacks this much just wants free games.

The PS3 is a closed platform, Sony has made that clear. You breaking is a violation of what Sony intends to do and since you're on their network they can do whatever the hell they want with your account.

Wasdie

Does that mean that I do not own my Playstation 3? Did I license my hardware? If I had gone into a contract like that, that would change what I could do with it.

I agree that Sony can do whatever they want with your account on PSN, and I agree that once you sign the license agreement on the firmware update you're signing off your right to modify the system.

The iPhone is clearly a closed platform, and yet Geohot jailbroke that and it has since received an exception to the DMCA's legal prohibition on hacking copyrighted software. I think that such a legal exception should stand in the case that an individual does not want to update his firmware and wants to remove the PS3's restrictions on third party software for the sake of modifying their system. I agree that Sony has the right to suspend all other services at that point.

I think that Sony planting whatever they want, including a rootkit, on your hardware with your consent and knowledge is acceptable,

I think that if you opt out of a terms of use agreement and don't give your consent to have your hardware modified, you should be able to use third party software, and if necessary, jailbreak the device. The DMCA bars hacking copyrighted software for any other purpose, including piracy. My question is how aggressively may Sony pursue that? I don't think they should be allowed to install a rootkit on your software or put malicious software that only responds to Sony and denies your requests for removal if you don't agree to its installation.

Is that a reasonable position?

Seems like most of the excitement is in what drops rather than the battle.

monkeychris
That's because the battle is hard, and the loot is the reward. Raid encounters are like puzzles you have to solve and you can sometimes spend dozens of times dying on a single encounter before your guild clears it, and it's considered a great accomplishment. You have to be very focused when raiding, because you can die very easily and botch the attempt for everyone.

[QUOTE="Badosh"]haha you act as if nobody ever played games before with the explanation of raids. and epic? ehhhhh. Much better more epic fights imo.SquatsAreAwesom
What are you talking about? Especially with your first statement. Sounds like you're overanalyzing MY OPINION as to why I PERSONALLY want to play wow after seeing that video.

Just keep in mind you don't just walk into a raid dungeon. Your friend made that vid in part because he was proud of what he did. Clearing a raid like Twilight Keep is a serious accomplishment.
