I'm putting this first, just so people will know... I only know a little bit about computer HARDWARE but I've been working with programs for quite some time now. I'm still learning about hardware but I've been saving money to make my own gaming PC. I don't have the best job in the world so I'm going for a budget PC.

Here's what I had in mind so far:

Case: COOLER MASTER Elite RC-310-BWN1-GP Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case or NZXT Apollo Black SECC Steel Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

PSU: FSP Group Blue Storm II 500W ATX 2.2 SLI Ready Active PFC Power Supply

Motherboard: ASUS P5QL PRO LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor

RAM: pqi TURBO 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200)

Internet Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Video Card: EVGA 896-P3-1257-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked Edition 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

CPU Fan: ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler

Monitor: ASUS VW192T+ 19" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 ASCR 4000:1(1000:1) Built in Speakers

Operating System: Windows Vista 64-Bit

I still need a sound card and a CD/DVD Burner/Player for the list. (I think most burners play them, don't they?)

If I missed anything let me know. I'm also up for any other suggestions. I also need to know if all this will be compatible. I don't want to spend money on something if it won't work with everything else. Thanks, guys! Let me know what you think!

Technically, you don't need to "install" a router, at least through software. All that the installation CD does is walk newbies through the steps you can do through direct access to the router. This is what you need to do:

Use a wired connection to the router and go to a web browser and enter 192.168.1.1 (this is almost always the default gateway... if this doesnt work open up a command line and type "ipconfig" and the default gateway will be listed.

The router might ask for a username/password. Usually the default username is either "user" or "admin", password "password". However it may be different and should be in the documentation for the router.

From there, it will open a website-like interface with a sidebar with different submenu's. You can configure your router from here. Just set the connection settings to match that of your ISP. If you have cable, probably you have a dynamic IP, whereas DSL will have static **usually. Leave the rest of the settings as default. Go to wireless settings, and select your network type. You will probably use wireless G but if you have a nice router/wireless card you can configure both to use wireless N for better bandwidth and range.

Set your network ID to whatever you want (the SSID.) This will be the name of the network you broadcast, and what will appear when you search for wireless networks. Set up security settings as you wish, but just make sure the devices you connect support the encryption you select and make sure to keep the encryption key handy in case you need to connect new devices.

After that you should be able to get it all working. Hope this helps.

So I'm trying to setup my wireless router that I got today. It's a Linksys WRT54GS by Cisco. So I take it all out of the box, put it the install disc and follow the steps precisely and I get to the step to plug the router into a wall socket and it checks for detection on the router and I get "Error 322: New Router or Gateway Not Detected."

I tried Googling it but people just say go onto 192.168.1.1 in the browser and set it up from there. But I don't understand how that's going to get the router installed and the software on my computer. I understand going on the IP in the browser is the best way for configuration, but I want the router installed right now.

Any help?

I ran the setup again after resetting the router and now it's saying the router isn't even detected and everything is clearly setup correctly and the correct lights are on and all green and good to go, but it isn't getting detected by the software. I think the router is broken. It WAS a damaged box, but the router didn't have anything rattling inside so I figured it was fine. I'll just have to take it back.

I wouldn't see how it could be bad, though. All the lights are on, and are the right color, and it was working well before.

So I just got a wireless router yesterday and I got it all setup correctly, without problems. So I go downstairs to see if I can get online with my PS3 and I was successful. Everything worked like a charm. So I was playing online on my PS3 for a little while and then turned it all off and came upstairs to play on the computer and it was working for a little bit but then things suddenly got slower and then eventually stopped loading. It worked before I played on the PS3 online and it worked for a little afterwards. Could somebody help me figure this thing out? I thought I had it all setup correctly. If it helps anything, I have a Netgear router and I did the gateway thing with my modem.

I just want to figure out how to get this setup the correct way to where the computer will work online and the PS3 will also work online. And eventually we'll want the laptop working off the wireless router, too.

If any further information is needed, just ask. I need as much help as possible.
