Hey guys.

Anyone else having a problem with Soul Calibur 5 turning off the console leaving it with a red blinking light?

I have a 40GB Fat that has just had a new disk drive and power supply. Plus the thermal paste has been changed. Before it happens the fan goes ape.

It's only happening with this gane though, as I can play Castlevania and play Bluray movies for hours with no problem. SCV lasts for 20 mins if that.

Help!

Hey all.

About 6 months ago my bluray drive died, so my dad who works for an in surance copany sent it to some people to get it fixed for free. Well, they changed the power supply and the disc drive, but when I got it back the other day (yes, they took that long), there was a white plastic stick thing blocking the disc entry. I couldn't be bothered to send it off again so looked around for some info and saw it had an easy fix, so I took it apart and manually reset the drive. The plastic thing went down and all appeared to be fine. I put it all back together and...it won't read anything. It's like the ps3 doesn't even recognise the drive. The discs go in and out alright, so it's got power, but it doesn't spin or anything. I unbuilt it again and notice that the laser isn't lighting up. The laser base moves around on it's track no problem.. What the hell is wrong with it? The laser was coming on whilst the plkastic thingy was up, so why wouldn't it work now? Could static have shot off my fingers? I'm really really clueless as to how to fix this.

Anyone with a bit of experience at solving this problem maybe could help me out please. Thanks.

I don't know what you did to kill it after you tore it apart. My slim turned on fine with out a blu-ray drive installed, but maybe FATS are different. But disk not spinning is often a dead laser. Laser replacements can be bought off EBay for about 20 bucks. Spindle and Laser combinations are generally 40 bucks and a complete blu-ray drive usually run about 80 bucks. But you have to get the right model number in all cases. Each PS3 revision is different that uses different parts. I fixed my PS3, when it went out last month.... Mine's a 1.5 year old slim (died 3 months after the warranty). I went with the second option of replacing the Spindle and Laser for 40 bucks. But it was probably just a bad laser. Installing the Ribbon cable was very tricky on that slim. Had to connect the drive first then assemble the drive inside the PS3, because the Ribbon to the Blu-ray is so short and just about impossible to plug into the motherboard; much easier to plug the ribbon into the motherboard first and then plug it into the laser.Threesixtyci
Yeah, that's what I was going to do before the F'ing power supply went out on me. I've actually took it to a repair shop and they've told me it was just an unlucky coincidence. **** happens I guess. I've just had to come to terms with it unfortunately. S'pose I'll have to wait till Christmas and hope that one of my richer family or friends will buy me a 2nd hand one. Thanks for the info.
throw that sh*t away and get yourself another one. Although IDK if you should get another one, you already broke 2 of them already....

Yeah, like it's never happened to anyone else and it's totally my fault. Just go back to your cave and find your hand.,

You could ask for one. But remember, if you're on the naughty list, you might just get a lump of coal. Sounds like you already got one of those last x-mas
;)
Hey guys.

My second Ps3 died on me this weekend and has really ticked me off as I'm broke and possibly won't be able to afford another one for a VERY LONG TIME.

So anyway, as it's got no warranty left, I take it apart to try and fix it. By the way, what happened was that I was playing Castlevania and when a cutscene came up the system just crashed. I tried everything to turn it off properly, but the console would just not eject the disc or turn off, so I was forced to switch off at the back (It's a 40GB fat). Well, when I turn it back everythings normal but the disc fails to load. I notice that I can't hear it spinning or anything. I'd just updated to FW 4.21 the night before so immediately thought it had something to do with it, so I put it in recovery mode and tried everything, even formatting my Ps3. It still didn't work so as I said, I took it apart after reading on the net that if you unplug all the cables from the disc drive and plug them back in again it should reset and work again. Well I did all that but I am unable to test it because when I go to plug it back in, the damn things just dead. No lights, no nothing. I make sure that everythings hooked up properly, changed socket, everything. Dead as a Do-do. I didn't even touch the power supply so why would it break on me? Is this a security measure or something and I have to press the ps3 buttons in such a way to reset it that I don't know about. The internet is very vague about what to do so any suggestions or actual first hand experience with solving this problem would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
