POE kind of filled the gap for me but I'll keep on eye on this

EDIT: just read that it's an expansion and I don't own the original anymore :(

Apparently, you need to own Bladur's Gate Enhanced Edition, not the original game, to run this "expansion."

Kind of counts me out.

I wonder if anyone who has played the "enhanced editions" can shed a little light on how good these new quests were. If they sucked and were poorly designed and written, well, it doesn't bode well for the new game. Some times it's best to let the past be the past, or do what Obsidian did and make a new game in the same "spirit" as the old.

I am a pretty big Star Wars fan but I have to admit, I was not exactly excited yesterday when Disney announced there was going to be a Han Solo movie. I guess I feel a little bit the same way about this announcement.

But Collector's Editions have been around for like 20 years.....

Yeah, sort of. The first one I remember was for Ultima IX but they were probably around before that, too, but I just didn't pay attention. My issue (and it's not a BIG issue just a niggling little one) is that nearly every game has a special edition now. Hell, some games have 3 or 4 different release versions. It just gets annoying....but I'll live.

What's wrong with offering a Collector's Edition (called special edition these days)?

They're scams. Sorry, a wee bit tipsy, so I don't want to offend anyone but...c'mon, $200 for a plastic statue? I don't know. I guess I feel like the actual "game" part of our games has taken a back seat lately to the marketing, DLC, and the hope of a continuous and endless revenue stream. I guess I am kind of sick of nearly every aspect of my hobby being monetized.

Maybe, but not necessarily. Be careful what you wish for...

Didn't they add new stuff to the "enhanced editions" like quests and things? Does anyone know if those were any good? I also have to wonder how the people who actually developed the original games, and lore, feel about this. It'd be like some unknown dude writing a prequel/sequel to the Catcher in the Rye. It's just kind of weird.

Then again, Deus Ex: Human Revolution came out "ok" and that was made by a completely new team so....who knows?

I haven't kept track of the Infinity engine "enhanced editions" games (I own the originals so I don't care) but are any of the original developers part of this team? If this is just some random dudes making a sequel than I really have a hard time caring.

It honestly doesn't matter because 98% of MMORPGs are all the same, a slightly different shade of the same flavor.

PC gaming is fine. There were plenty of good, PC-centric, games released last year. PC RPGs haven't been healthier in a very long time.

Now, if you're only talking about the so-called mega-budget AAA games, then, well, yeah, most of those games do seem to get preferential treatment on consoles. Personally, I couldn't care less though, because most of those games end up being paper thin and nothing more than advertisements for DLC and the inevitable sequels. They're more revenue streams than games.

There have been reports of PC gaming dying for years, since at least the release of the original PlayStation (probably before that, too) yet we are still here. There is a diverse and thriving PC gaming community but you're going to have to dig a little deeper to find it these days. You're certainly not going to find it from the likes of EA and Activision, etc.
