Oops, I should have mentioned that. This laptop is NOT for gaming. Just for checking email, using MS office and watching Youtube videos lmao. Nothing crazy.

I wanted to buy a sandy bridge laptop but now that there has been a recall, I can't wait until the problem is fixed.I'm currently looking at two cheap(er) alternatives.

This Core i3 Samsung for $549.99

or

This Core i5 Toshiba for $649.99

What are your thoughts on these laptops? Do you think the i5 is worth the extra money or not really? Thanks for the help

As for the rest of the laptop, the parts are pretty good. Intel's Core 2 Duo is the best mobile CPU and the hard drive is a decent size. You've only got 3GB of ram but unless that thing's running Vista64 you wouldn't be able to use 4GB anyway.fynne

I was looking at this laptop mainly because of the processor. I couldn't even find the integrated graphics chip on the benchmark list so I guess that's not a good sign. No Crysis for this laptop:(

Is the price too high considering the specs?

Depends on what you want to use it for. If it's work/school related then that's not a bad laptop. It's got integrated graphics though so you won't be able to play any current games on it. For a description of all the graphics chips and how they compare, goto this link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39568fynne

That link doesn't seem to be working for me. It says "No Thread Specified".

This laptop would be used for school mostly. I don't think any game would run on an integrated graphics chip but I still want to make sure everything else is decent considering the price.

Is this a good laptop? On the entire Future Shop website, I think this is the laptop which offers the most bang for my buck although I don't really know too much about laptops to be honest. Thoughts?

I'm just asking because Future Shop and Best Buy don't really carry PC2700 RAM anymore...

I currently have PC2700 RAM installed in my laptop and I'd like to replace it with a higher amount. Will my computer only accept RAM that is PC2700 or can I just ignore this number completely and get any model?

Well this thread flopped. Anyways, I think I'm going to wait for the Q9450. Maybe I'll also get 4 gigs of RAM.

I also might wait for nvidia's new card as well.

I built a PC 3 years ago but I haven't really been keeping up with all the new stuff that's come out since. I was thinking about building a new gaming PC so here are some tentative specs which I've come up with:

Motherboard: S775 MSI P35 Platinum PCIE

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.00G/1333/4M/S775

Memory: Corsair 800 MHZ DDR2 2048 MB TWINX PRO

Hard Drive: SATA2 500.0GB Seagate 7200 32M

Video Card: BFG PCIE GF8 8800GT OC2 512M

Sound Card: C.Labs Soundblaster Audigy SE 4L

PSU: 650W ATX Antec True650

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

1 Year Warranty

Total (After Taxes): $1590.74 Canadian

What are your thoughts on these specs? I'm willing to change pretty much anything. Did I pick a good mobo? Should I change processors? Do gaming PCs generally have more than 2 gigs of RAM? (I really have no clue)

Also, is it worth buying a new PC right now? I heard that the new Intel processors will be coming out soon and I'm not in rush to buy a new PC immediately. Will the new processors be significantly better (I know they will be 45nm and run cooler)?

Let me know what you think and whether or not I should wait or buy something now.
