As an action/fps hybrid, this game delivers in both aspects. A definite must have for the Xbox owner.

Oddworld - Stranger's Wrath is another title in the long standing Oddworld series. Previous titles have included abe's oddysee, abe's exodus, and munch's oddysee. They take place in a strange yet colorful world. The usual themes for these games involved attempting to escape or outsmart some oppressive corporate regime, but in Stranger's wrath, this all changes. This time, you take the fight to them.

In Stranger's wrath, you play as the stranger - an enigmatic character who must have an important operation to save his life. The setting of the game is in a pseudo wild west theatre, and Stranger earns his keep by taking in or taking down various outlaws. To help him in this endeavour, he has the services of several of the local creatures. He employs this "live" ammo to help him capture or kill his targets.

The game is somewhat of hybrid between an action and first person shooter title with some minor platforming elements. You can play in either a first person or third person view, and certain additional commands are available to you depending on the mode you use.

When in first person mode, you will have access to your crossbow and the "live" ammo that it uses. Probably the most enjoyable aspect of the game is using this weapon. Your character has eight different types of ammo that he can use - each with their own unique feature. He has spider like ammo that can subdue his prey with webs, heavy thudslugs that can knock them back and damage them, explosive charged bat ammo with area of effect damage, skunk ammo which can incapicate a group of foes, and so on. My favorite ammo to use was the chipmunk - a foul mouthed and obnoxious creature which would attract enemies to its location.

When in third person mode, your character was more suited for running and jumping, and had the ability to head butt or punch foes to disable them for a capture.

The main theme of the game was in capturing or killing certain boss bounties. You picked up bounties in town, at the - no surprise here - bounty store. It was easier to just take them out, but far more rewarding if you could capture them. Once an enemy was disable - whether a boss or henchman - you could capture them and bring them in for a sizable price.
The boss battles were enjoyable and each one had a different strategy required to take them down. Once captured or killed, you reported back to the bounty store for your reward.

There is a fairly easy learning curve to the game, and the developers have put a very helpful tutorial at the start. You should be able to just jump in and start playing without much difficulty.

The game was fairly linear, though you did have some freedom in choosing which bounties to pursue first. The story was well done and very humorous. One of the constant enjoyments about oddworld has been the funny and somewhat vulgar dialogue that you have with the locals. There was also an interesting twist at the end, but I will avoid discussing it as I would hate to ruin it for anyone.

If you have an xbox, I would definitely recommend picking this game up. It certainly isn't the best game on the system, but it was very entertaining and humorous.
