As usual, a great NHL game with a couple of flaws.

It is always hard to write lengthy reviews for NHL games because there is barely anything to bash. EA always seemed to deliver great NHL games and they were always so similar to previous installments.
I can do a 3 word review: It is good. There is practically no need to expand. The gameplay is top-notch, the graphics are okay, controls are intuitive. Everything that an NHL game should be. So, if you'll excuse me, I'll do this review in comparison form with the help of Konami's Blades Of Steel 1999.
Gameplay: NHL is the absolute winner here. Its gameplay is balanced but still fast, it doesn't suffer from constant glitching and it is generally more fun than the ill-fated BOS'99. While it is much easier to score, the enemies actually do something in NHL rather than running around aimlessly.
Graphics: Again, NHL wins by far. Its graphical performance is not groundbreaking but when compared to BOS... Well, yeah.
Sound: Ea Sports commentators are generally better and funnier. Sounds are more realistic and the music - more appropriate.
Controls: No comment, I think it is obvious.
Overall, NHL 99 is a great hockey game. It's not perfect but you can do much much worse.
