BioShock DLC zaps PSN

Add-on pack for Take-Two's acclaimed dystopian shooter leads weekly releases for Sony's online store; Street Fighter II Turbo HD coming Tuesday for $15.

It was a long time coming, but Take-Two's critical darling BioShock proved to have the same subversive charm on the PlayStation 3 as its Xbox 360 and PC counterparts released last year. Sweetening the deal, Take-Two also opted to supply PS3 gamers with an exclusive batch of downloadable content, laying out the how and the how much earlier this month.

As part of Sony's weekly content update for the PlayStation Network, that exclusive DLC is now available for $9.99. The pack adds three multiplayer-map-like "Challenge Rooms" to the single-player only game, each presenting a timed mini-scenario unrelated to BioShock's main plotline. The rooms will also take place in all-new areas of Rapture, the undersea utopia-gone-horribly-wrong where the game is set.

Also previously telegraphed, EA has rolled out a slew of add-on packs for its survival horror shooter Dead Space. The add-on packs range in price from $0.99 to $3.99, and give gamers the chance to expand on their deep-space isolation with new looks and enhanced capabilities for various weapons and suits. Speaking of new looks, Sony has also released free of charge a community costume for Little Big Planet's iconic Sack Boy. This free garb is in addition to the $2.99 LocoRoco costume kit that is also now available.

Rhythm games are in no short supply of new downloadable content this week. For Guitar Hero World Tour, faux rockers can pick up a three-song Raconteurs Track Pack for $5.49. The pack includes "Consoler of the Lonely," "Hold Up," and "Salute Your Solution," and songs can also be purchased individually for $1.99 apiece. Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Encore 2 sees five new songs added to its library this week. "(I Just) Died In Your Arms," "All You Wanted," "Black Hole Sun," "It's Not Unusual," and "September" can be purchased for $1.49 apiece.

Weekly contributor Rock Band has a suite of new songs added to its expansive library, as well. Mission of Burma lends three tracks to Harmonix's four-piece rhythm game: "That's When I Reach for my Revolver," "That's How I Escaped My Certain Fate," and "Mica." From the Dead Kennedys comes "Police Truck," "Holiday in Cambodia," and "California Uber Alles." Also available is the Century Media Girls of Metal Pack 01, which comprises Crooked X's "Gone," In This Moment's "Forever," and Lacuna Coil's "Swamped" and "Closer." All tracks are available individually for $1.99, or as part of their respective packs for $5.49.

Lastly, following on from Capcom's seemingly inadvertent dating of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for Microsoft's console earlier this week, the publisher confirmed the game's PSN launch date of November 25. Capcom's hallmark fighter will run $14.99. As to the question of trophies, Capcom responded, "Not at launch."

    Still doesn't convince me I need to spend $60 to rebuy a game that's more then a year old that I already played, then spend another $10 on something I'll play once or twice.

    The DLC for Bioshock in the UK is about £7. On top of paying £23 for the game itself it still totals way less than most full price games. Absolutely nothing to complain about here. Cheers, 2K.

    I didn't care about the DLC. The game itself looks even more improved when you download the 1.1.0 patch.

    Nope. My friend got it. He said it took him 40 minutes to figure out how to do one of them, and from his list of trophies, there's a silver trophy for completing one of them under 15 minutes.

    Bioshock 2 was announced in the extra section of the PS3 version. Why would they announce it on the PS3 version if it wasn't coming on PS3?

    Big reason is that most people played it already. I prefer multi-platform games on PS3, even if they sometimes have more flaws, I prefer the PS3 controller and most of my friends have only have a PS3, so for games with online modes, the PS3 version is the best choice for me.

    But last year, Take 2 said that Bioshock wasn't coming to PS3, so why would I wait when it's not even supposed to come out on PS3? But it sucks that I won't be able to play that DLC.

    I have GTAIV for PS3 and DLC for GTA is just for Xbox360 and I dont have Bioshock and DLC comes to PS3..........damn lol

    To those who are wondering, you don't JUST get 3 challenge rooms. You also get a new mode added to the game called New Game+, which allows you to start a new game after you beat it (the normal game) with all the weapons and items you acquired throughout. It kinda makes me wonder how Survivor mode might play out...

    I'm happy for all the PS3 only owners since they finally got to experience Bioshock that the 360 and PC guys already got and get some DLC in addition. Though I am a bit miffed by all the fanboys clawing each other's eye out over this.

    im not paying for dlc that was meant to be free with the ps3 release of bioshock. oh and thanks for the patch 2k now bioshock actually looks like it was meant too im suprised they didnt charge for that too.

    the extra content should be in the disc. this if for the ps3, it uses blu-ray discs. you can ask kojima.

    @enomik: actually it's a pc original as far as i know.. I played the pc version and it was fantastic, but it sounds like the DLC the ps3 versions getting isn't all that great tbh so it's not a big loss

    WTF! is it only for the ps3 version? I just bought my 360 bioshock like 2 months ago and loved it. i was hoping that xbox version would get DLC for bioshock as well. isn't this game a 360 original? please tell me im wrong, i really want this online pack.

    WeskerLogan its more the point the game was made 15 years ago. All they did was upgrade the graphic and recycle the online mode that was in the turbo game. If you think that deserves top price your out of your mind. If they would have given us SF3 instead of SSF2 that only has 4 new characters I would be more excited. It the end its Capcoms never ending milking of SF2 that sickens me.

    Bought the DLC for Bioshock and love it, $10 for three maps is great and it also includes New Game+, score! Love Bioshock and people who work extra hours at their job (like me) have no probs forking out $10 measly bucks for exclusive DLC (at least for me)! The patch for Bioshock that came out tonight improved alot of the game even more, 1080p in all it's glory (no blur) finally! The 2k forum communities wishes/fixes were mostly answered and with DLC for icing on the cake. I'm a fan of Bioshock if you can't tell !

This isn't just about "man hours" and hard work, CAPCOM knows there are hundreds if not thousands of players desperate enough to pay $15. Hell, they were probably considering charging $30.
