With origins tracing back to the 1930's Americas, and with well over sixty different variants in existence, Monopoly tru

User Rating: 7.7 | Monopoly SNES
Monopoly has been around for over seventy years. So, its with this in mind that I assume that if you're reading this review, that you have played the actual board game before. Ever since the NES days, there has been an incarnation of Monopoly on any given system. Very few didn't contain one. However, off all of them that I have played, the SNES version appears to be the best.

“Why?”, you may be wondering. Sure, there is a Playstation version of the game, aswell as a PC version. However, when those came out and I played them, I found them to be nothing but ports of this version. The SNES version was very well done, however, compared to other games of its time, it still doesn't rate that high. When comparing it to other Monopoly games, it is, to this point, one of the best.

The game has various built-in options, such as determining before hand if someone has properties or money. This is a good option to have, as it allows you to write down on a scrap piece of paper who had what, incase a game had to be ended abruptly. For 1992, this was a good feature. Later incarnation's of the game would allow you to save games to be continued later. Unfortunately, this feature is absent from this game.

The graphics are top notch for its time, yet the audio leaves little to be desired, and can get easily repetitive. Throughout all of this, the game has excellent replay value, especially to those who do not own an actual board game version, or to those who do not want the hassle of setting a game up with friends.

After all of this, the facts remain. A lot of people love Monopoly, myself included. It's been quite awhile since a really good Monopoly game has come along, and this is one of the best. If you can find a copy, some of them go for $8.00 to $10.00, priced well under the standard $20.00 an actual board game version costs.

While writing this review for this game, I made comparisons with other versions, however, I will state that I tried to make this review from an objectionable standpoint. I looked at this game as it is, as a whole, and how it compares to other games of its time. I made mentions of newer version to only validate my point that they are ports of this game, because this game is a solid and stable game.

In my opinion, this game should be in any casual gamers collection, aswell as collectors. Everyone loves a good game of Monopoly, and heres hoping that a new video game version comes out, perhaps, with some of the variants added in as extras.
