Not a full game on its own, but is sure to satiate MGS fans craving for more.

User Rating: 7.5 | Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions PS
MGS VR Missions is an interesting case. This was actually the bonus disc included in Metal Gear Solid Integral. For some odd reason, Konami decided to sell it as a stand-alone game. All that is left to review is how this game holds up on its own and as a complement to MGS.

Gameplay:

You're probably already familiar with the drill. No changes with the controls have been made. However, we have been given 300 missions in a wide variety. These missions are designed to test your adeptness at MGS and its gameplay. These missions put you and Snake into conditions that would not normally be in the main scenario of MGS. If you wanted a place to run-and-gun with Snake, this is it. There is undeniable fun and gameplay value in this out of context experience.

It's just disappointing how scant the Ninja Mission modes are, considering it was one of the most touted features. But there are other... "odd"... missions that should keep you occupied.

Plot:

Nothing, really...
All I know is that, these were the VR Missions Snake took in the sub before going into Shadow Moses.

Graphics:

MGS was known for having an overabundance of detail. This is a stark contrast to VR Missions due to its very drab and rudimentary and purposeful VR environments. We still get the same weapon effects, but beyond that, this game is not exactly eye candy.

Sound:

Absolutely nothing spectacular. If you've played MGS, you know what to expect. In a VR environment, the variable sounds of knocking on surfaces and footsteps on different terrain seems less significant. Each weapons still has its own unique sound effects. The music is just standard BGM fodder.

Conclusion:

There's a lot of fun to be had in this game, and it's interesting to see what the VR Missions Snake took was like. There are also plenty of inside jokes about Metal Gear and the development staff. The out of place gameplay is fun, but eventually wears thin on its own. VR Missions seems like an add-on (an "expansion pack" if you will) to the MGS experience. This would have been much more significantly better if it came with the real MGS game, as it would have been a great complementary bonus disc. I still don't understand why Konami didn't release this as part of a North American version of Integral.

We may never know...
