But I thoughtz teh PC Gamingz was dying?

http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2008/06/ken-levine-re-n.html

QUOTE: "Coming off the big commercial success (2.2 million units sold) and even bigger critical success of the game, Levine has become one of the very few recognizable and respected names in the videogame development community and he's trying to use that to get the creative freedom and compensation he feels he deserves..."

NVIDIA statement:

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=148824&page=2

"A very successful PC game sells 2 to 3 million - well, we have more than enough GeForce users for that too. Crysis has sold over a million copies on PC, despite everything. BioShock sold over a million on PC. Pick any successful PC title you can think of - selling over a million is being done, and will continue to happen."

The PC version made up at least 50% of sales for a title that was primarily promoted on the Xbox 360 before any of its other fall blockbusters came out. Where's the dying, Consolites?

Yeah, even though I just gave you proof that that isn't the case for at least several games...

Orange Box sold > on Pc than the combined 1.5 million the PS3 and 360 versions pulled. With Bioshock, we have confirmation that it AT LEAST sold toe-to-toe with a game that was hyped for months and months in Xbox magazines and previews.

It did according to dgsag lol . I have yet to find a single link confirming it.

From the article:

Crysis has sold over a million copies on PC, despite everything. BioShock sold over a million on PC.

I bought it on 360 and was pretty disappointed. :(

Just another somewhat interesting gimmick-based shooter (what shooter isn't?) that was hyped and praised to the moon for things it didn't do.

And as for it selling 1+ million, that's great. Any industry growth is great.

Ha when i was a teenager in the mid 90s they said PC gaming was dying to..geez. I still play Starcraft weekly. PC gaming will never die why do people insist it will.

Two facts for all gamers out there.

1. Nintendo and Sega 16 bit were the best times of gaming, and 2. PC gaming will never die.

StarCraft 2, DOW2, Heck even Street Fighter 4 on PC.

Well, Bioshock wasn't exactly targeted for the mainstream PC audience

What about games like MGS2? Arguably the most hyped game on the PS2, and yet its sales weren't really spectacular for the user base.

Wait, how do you know the OP didn't like Bioshock or didn't think it was dumbed down? You say "you hermits" yet it's only him and two other hermits in this thread, I don't think three people represent over 260 million PC users. ;) But hey, maybe my logic fails in comparison to yours but then again you rated AR Tenelico a 10.

It got a 9 on GS, translating to a great game.

Isn't the push nowadays to exclusively support GS reviews. ;)

What I find even more interesting is that STALKER sold almost as much as Bioshock, despite being a PC-only game with marketing budget not even 10% as big as Bioshock's one and with nowhere near as much hype :)

And it blew away sales of PC Bioshock. Hopefuly it will be a further proof for developers that it's worth the effort not to dumb down PC games :)

How so? Not only it had insane competition on PC, but it also was bashed like hell (and PC games still do sell mostly by word of mouth), it has high hardware requirements and there was also a 360 version (which canibalized the PC sales in US a lot), not to mention the whole DRM drama.

Considering the circumstances I would say it sold surprisingly well

The situation? What kind of situation exactly? Also, it doesn't take a rocket-scientist to know that the quality of a game is determined by ones opinion.

Also, 3 million is pretty good for any game. While Bioshock had a lot of hype, it did reasonably well.

And sadly, I was one of those 1 million. What a waste of money that game was.
