Im thinking about getting Empire &/or Napoleon Total War, what do you guys think.harden007

I recommend both, Empire may be buggy but its scale makes up for that. It's huge, all those nations to fight! Napoleon on the other hand is not nearly as big but runs much much more smoothly and looks better too. :P 

either sounds interesting. i've avoided the whole Total War thing because I'm not sure if i'd like it or not. besides, i still have plenty of other games i haven't played yet that i've already bought.

Well I want to get Shogun but i've never been a PC gamer since i've never had the right PC... but my uncle is gonna get me a laptob my b-day :D

Then Ill get Shogun, Witcher 2, Guild Wars, Skyrim, DA:O, and stuff :D  

tell him to make sure he gets you a laptop with a decent gfx card. intel gfx will NOT get you there. you wasnt something in the x600 rating or higher where x = 1 thru 9.

unless of course you get the latest nvidia gfx in which case you'll want to be in the x60 and up range where x = 1 thru 9.

my lappy has an nvidia 560 GTX. very nice.

other than that - i feel pretty good.

oh, i'm resiliant enough. it's just a matter of waiting out the other social networks that have stolen the fire from the forum sphere. only after their destruction will forums experience a surge of renewal!! 

on the other hand we could wait until people start to get all nostalgic about their old forum days and want to come back here and visit.

I see a future where old members force their children to log onto the DWU and post out of respect for the heritage of their mothers and fathers!!

Although it seems we would be cool with like a guild page. You know how gaming guilds have these guild sites that have a bunch of features (including forums). That might be cool.

The best defense is a good offense, stalling is of no use. We should focus on building and fortifying our defenses, then we ought to yield to a larger community (KoeiWarriors?), given they grant us autonomy and ability to maintain tradition and customary heritage.

My point is, which is what I've noticed, I doubt we can advance on our own, GameSpot is decaying, much more, unions, there is no chance for a surplus of activity, we can stall it, but we can not generate a surplus it seems.

Either we start our industrial revolution and ramp up our infrastrcuture, yeild to another community and join them, or maintain our status quo.

the guys at Koei Warriors are aweful stodgy. they cover the games pretty well, but they're too focused on staying on topic.

that's what makes the DWU sort of unique among forums. we're rebels - sort of. and we tend to not conform to the status quo. the fact that our members rarely post is just testimony to our rebellious nature. we're not going to post just because our union is almost to the brink of failure due to inadequate activity! NO WAY! we'll let this union burn before we'll let somone like our emperor push us around and try to make us feel guilty!

eventually the rebel must die or the rebel ceases to be a rebel. Jimi Hendrix, James Dean, Kurt Cobain, Lu Bu. These are our role models! When one ceases to rebel they grow old and fat like Marlon Brando... and other rebel pozers!

We've been in the doldrums before, and activity also varies by season. Even now we are in a better place than when I took over for my second reign. At that time, there were three people posting, and I would log in on saturday and respond to the 2-5 posts that had been made through the week. This only seems like a Great Depression because we're comparing it to 2-3 years ago. 

Being emperor is actually pretty tough when your goal is to usher in a golden age. Your vassels are rarely motivated to find creative solutions to the problem of inactivity, and even then, the people need to respond to those initiatives favorably. 

i'd be happy with a bronze age actually.

and we do have to consider that the new social networking scene has stolen a lot of attention. i imagine that after some time people will tire of facebook and come back here for OT goodness.

They need to update union posting html methods so that they more closely mimic Facebook. It's pretty awesome on there how I can just paste a link in a message box and Facebook turns the link into very nice looking post complete with link and video/photos from the llinked page.
