Seriously what Valve done with their game on the PS3 ( Portal 2 ) is absolutely an amazing job! i think with Portal 2 implementing Cross Platform features gaming will change towards such feature very, very soon! With Steam features being on PS3 online gaming never got any better! not only am i able to chant with friends on PSN now i can also chat with friends on steam right on the PS3 itself! its even possible to invite, view profile, trophis, achievements from steam to PSN all on the PS3 itself! i think from now on we will see Cross Platform features coming truly soon with more and mroe games. imagine the day going to the point where users are able to chat with their friends on LIVE, STEAM and so on just by being on the PS3

gotta hand it to both sony and valve, steam works amazing on ps3, very easy to use and very quick

Seriously i was one of those who did not enjoy the idea of portal being all puzzle type game but after playing it.. portal 2 = win!

Your thoughts on cross platform features? I think Steam on PS3 is only the start for a big change in the online gaming world

Well done

It really doesn't change much of anything... there isn't anything new, MSN messanger is usable with a windows live ID which any one that goes online with 360 has one, so you can talk to people that use PC, and M$ already explored some cross platform play with shadow run...

For things like fighting games, racers and puzzle games cross network is a pretty cool thing. For FPS it would just be unfair to the console crowd.

Yes it does, it shows how cross platform is truly a great idea to have, i mean wouldnt be great to sign on PSN and be able to directly chat with friends who are only steam gamers? or chat with friends who are only Live gamers? imagine all you can do on the PS3 itself or the other way around, cross platform=ftw! Activision need to do this with their Call of Duty series

I personally find it very cool that you can chat with friends on a PC while you're on an Xbox 360/Playstation 3.

Indeed.

This is a feature that could boost PS3 online system since Steam is the most popular platform on pc if ps3 secured alot more games with crossover features it would help them immensely.

I think you can voice chat PC to Xbox 360 with Games for Windows LIVE. But I'm not sure about PS3 to Steam friends. Although I certainly hope you would be able to.

I love Steam on PS3! It's actually easier to chat on Steam than it is on PS3 because it's one button. But this doesn't work for FPS' unless they are co-op like Bulletstorm. But there are a lot more genres other than FPS so I'm hoping for more from Valve with this. Hopefully Sony will do PS3-PC games too (not SoE!).

I personally see it much easier on PS3 than it is on Steam, while your gaming all you need to do is click Select and bam the chat opens up directly with your friends, to switch from chat to another all you need is go down and with a USB keyboard connected to your ps3 its just win, i spent my time yesterday chatting with steam friends mroe than playing portal lol, so far made it t chapter 6

It'd be pretty neat to put xbox 360 players on one team, and have Playstation 3 players on the other and see what happens.

Let me know when there is party chat, ads, wii knock off avatars, clothing for such avatars, and last but certainly not least--------------please let me know when Sony or Valve allows me the pleasure of paying 60 dollars a year to play my 60 dollar games online. Only then will I care.

The PC has cross capabilities with the 360 through the whole Live platform. Problem is it's terribly fractured between GFWL and Messenger.

Though for Valve it's a good opportunity to pull PlayStation owners over, I imagine MS isn't terribly pleased with them being in cahoots.

You arent going to be seeing "cross platform Steam" with the PS3. Maybe on the few games made by Valve, but thats it. Also Steam is not on PS3.There is no comparison at all.

360 did cross platform already, instead of Steamworks it was Games for Windows live. Yes, cross platform is cool but I don't think Portal 2 is what will revolutionise it, the game has a co-op feature but by nature it has no replay value. Only thing is, it's a 3rd party developer, not all 1st party like what 360 had.

Cross platform online play would be very nice for all games. It would certainly make me more likely to buy a niche online game if I knew it had a much bigger pool of players.

Cross-platform play wasn't limited to first-party games with GFWL titles. BlazBlue used it, and Lost Planet as well I think.

it's already been done before. but, once again, sony takes someone else's idea and tricks its fanbase into thinking it's original.

gotta give sony credit for that!

It really doesn't change much of anything... there isn't anything new

savagetwinkie

There were games with cross-platform play in the past and it didn't change jack crap. The PS3 already had an achievement system and chat so I don't get what the big deal about adding that via Steam is.

Steam on PS3 is missing the marketplace, which is like the best and most revolutionary thing about Steam by far. Adding that would change console gaming. That isn't what Valve and Sony are offering though.

That was totally my last phone man!

Then I upgraded.

Because I'm a winner.

But I agree, what they've done something important. Cross platform gaming could be a selling point for Sony next gen if MS doesn't jump on board.
