Reading done replies here, I decided to go with mgs4, super mario galaxy 1 and 2, and uncharted 2!
Yeah, I also had a blast with that game, but I don't consider it mediocre.
Crackdown was the bomb... Still love that game despite it being mediocre in almost all of what it does...
It deserves a proper sequel... Not this crackdown 2 nonsense... Something better.
Given as forward thinking as that game is, I would argue it's better than mediocre, but it deserves a sequel that justifies the concept better than the original did.
@jg4xchamp: I think it's verticleness at the time was pretty forward thinking... I also really love the way the game levels. It may be the draw for me.
I think there are also some fundamental issues with some of it though. I'd argue even backward thinking in some instances.
The games complete dedication to being open doesnt always serve it well in the way it approaches taking down the kingpin of different areas, and as much as I want to applaud it for allowing me such a lack of hand holding with obvious paths, I also don't feel like the game was designed to serve the rogue approach all that well either and at times boils down to roaming, stationed AI with dozens of exploits.
Regardless, crackdown was able to do what none of the gtas did last gen, for me, which was shine based upon its core gameplay.
Was it mediocre to the gaming public at large? Maybe not... Critically it was received well enough. I do often wonder though how much exposure crackdown was gifted based up that slice of halo it came with, and whether we'd even be talking about the franchise if it didn't...

Honestly it's that open nature that helps its cause, because of the sheer variety of ways a mission can be solved. Sniping giant ass explosive towers from a distance, and taking out an entire compound without ever setting foot in there? **** yeah. Coop throwing busses across the field at the big bad to separate him from the rest of the enemies? **** yeah.
The problem is the missions because of the open nature are also really samey and uninteresting, it's more like a cool toybox than an interesting action game in terms of finishing missions. If they could take that exact same structure, but come up with even more elaborate missions and detailed scenarios (without scripting it, keep it free) Crackdown could be a beast of an open world action game. As it stands it's a really fun one that allows a sense of freedom and player expression Rockstar's games only pretend they do.
I mean come on, it definitely benefited from Halo 3's beta, the actual commercial success is all the beta. But, I think some of the positive buzz around that game was genuine, or maybe a product of low ass expectations. Regardless it genuinely had amazing ideas that offered so much potential if a developer was able to take that concept and turn it into the real deal.
Tedious grindfest with palette swapped enemies and reused dungeons. Yet I find myself playing it more and more like a loon.
The original Dead Island.
Despite its flaws, I saw the potential in the series and the direction they could be going. Now I'm quite happy with what they managed to achieve in Dying Light.
PS: Why are people calling the original Fable mediocre? The game was highly praised during its time. It's far far above average: http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/fable-the-lost-chapters

Crackdown was the bomb and probably the best coop game of last gen, me and a mate of mine must've spent 100+ hours playing coop and just fucking about in CD. Was a real shame that CD2 was well, crap.
@Snugenz: my one regret was never getting a proper long term session of coop going. It was one of those games I could see the potential in the coop, but could never fall in sync with the early days of the friends list... Ie, none of my friends had the game, and playing with strangers wasn't as fun.
I actually did have fun with Enter The Matrix back in 2003...it'd likely be a tub of shite if I went back to it now though.
Used to like Matrix back then. There was nothing else like Max Payne 1 and 2 to play for a long time, so...
I wouldn't call them mediocre but underrated (couldn't pick just one)
Witcher 1 is awesome and it's not underrated . It's 85+ on MC if I'm not mistaken. I think more people should play that game and shouldn't be hesitate to try it just because of its graphics. It's a better RPG than Witcher 2 imo (Witcher 2 is better game though).

Also people generally find TW1 dull or boring, at least on here.

Man i was so hooked on the game as was my mate that we even put about 20 hours into the demo (remember those) before the full game came out, lol.

Yeah, most people here only care about visuals. You don't even notice anything when you play that game because it immediately immerses you in its world and story. As for the score:
The Witcher. 81 metacritic. (89 User score)

The Witcher Enhanced Edition. 86 Metacritic

Lost Planet 2!! I strangely liked that game, it had such a large, ambitious scope and it had wonderful visual design, and the gameplay was very free form for a shooter. I actually have fond memories of it while also acknowledging how bad it was.
Also, I liked AC Unity, it was good, I'm not blinded by romantic, anti-ubisoft bias.

User scores are laughable at best sadly (even though I'd agree with them with TW1 at a 89), ether they highly overrated a game or give it like a 4
I'm going to go with Dragon Age Inquisition. I really liked it even though I recognise the loot system absolutely blows (you never get anything exciting to drop, ever) and the story's not particularly good.
I put a LOT of hours into that game and still consider it mediocre.
You shut your whore face right now, and replace that shit with Grand Theft Auto 4.
Tell ya what. I'll add in GTA4 in the mix, but I'm keeping Evil Within ;)
That game was just a whole lot of Mikami unsuccessfully trying to replicate the greatness of RE4.

I don't disagree with that, but I also wouldn't call it mediocre. The core action is quite good given its variation and pace.
Probably SimCity. It's incredibly limiting and shallow in a lot of ways, but it's still a lot of fun to play. It's also incredibly well presented and polished at what it does. If only the game wasn't so limited by its size.
this, especially with the future pack. I love making my own blade runner cities, filled with neon and smog and mile high buildings. Shame the game is so tiny though.
