What are your controversial gaming opinions?

here are some that come to mind lol

• Final Fantasy 9 is overrated
  • it gets praised a lot by fans and critic but it seemed like a fairly safe entry in the series
• PS3 beat X360
  • aside from the slow start, it had a much better middle and finish and did sell more world wide
• Physical games is still better than digital
  • can sell, lend, buy used, and value can rise over time
• Microsoft Activision deal should not go through
  • MS should put that $70 billion into their Current business instead of buying market share
• Mario Odyssey sucks
  • not nearly as fluid or fun as Mario 64.
• MGS V is overrated
  • lack of story, writing, Kojima craziness
• PC gaming is overrated
  • consoles have caught up with tech and rarely are their games that really take advantage of high end hardware. lack of system selling exclusives.

Don't think any of those are controversial lol.

Guess you could say the FF9 one is weird. Doesn't get nearly the praise of 6, 7, or 10... or even 4 and 5 for that matter. Doesn't get in the hate convo like 8 or 13 either. It's just kinda there.

Guess the Odyssey one could be, if you're actually implying it's a bad game.

Did we have a similar thread somewhere last year? Also, it would be nice if respondants give their reasons for their controversial opinions instead of listing them. After all, System Wars is a discussion forum, not a place to posts lists without substance.

Breath of the wild is one of the most over rated games ever.

Dark souls level design makes them better games than Elden ring.

Last of us 2 is better than the first one

N64 was a better console than ps1

Console gaming is overrated.

Skyrim is bad.

Anything from Sony, Nintendo, From Software, Rockstar that has gotten tons of praise from players/critics over the last decade was not deserving (also Witcher 3 )

FF8 is a great game. The best in the series, actually.

1. Comparing sales figures as a bullet point for why one thing is superior than the other is a sign of a follower and not a leader. -Leaders do what they like, while followers need to justify what they like for others to justify them
2. People who think power is the only reason people love PC gaming most likely have never tried PC gaming and wouldn't understand the appeal. - There's so many other things consoles simply can't do with a closed system the PC can.
3. Brand loyalty is bad for gamers in general. - They are all giant corporations and weaponizing and manipulating simpletons is the the bread and butter of a corporation. you can have your preference, but understand that they are all just out for your dollar and don't really care about you in the slightest.
4. I like that PC gaming has a higher cost of entry, because it's a filter that helps keep kids and jobless teenagers away and on cheaper platforms. - Have so much more fun playing games with adults on PC rather than squeakers and teenagers trying to be edgy when I played PlayStation
5. I grew up during the NES and N64 days and I never played a Nintendo Game that I would rate higher than an 8. - It's all overrated and I hate how damn colorful most of their games have to be. It's like Unicorn vomit.

• Exclusives are anti consumer and only fanboys celebrate the foolishness
• Consoles should be standardized and allow for multiple manufacturers
• Digital games should finally allow for resale (that is coming once physical games finally die)
• Game purchase should be platform agnostic.

Dragon's Dogma is trash.

• Zelda games are overrated (I like Twilight Princess and the Minish Cap. Just because something is overrated, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's a bad game)
• Mario Kart 8 is better than Gran Turismo 7 (Unlike the developers of GT7, Nintendo doesn't try to rape their clients with micro-transactions)
• Splatoon 3 is one of the best shooters in this generation (I usually don't play shooters, but when I have a desire to just play a simple game with shooting dudes, I'll naturally pop in Splatoon 3).

Metroid Prime's original controls worked really well. They can be a bit awkward at first, until you realize it's just Zelda from a different angle.

That high Halo Infinite scores were only given because most publications were scared of being bullied across the social media. No way can a sane reviewer play THAT campaign, and say yes, this is indeed a 9/10 worthy title. Like what? Nice joke.

I think MMOs are garbage and people that play them waste their time and money.

Playstation peaked at PS2 and since then its quality output has fallen off a cliff.

Sales wise that is factual.😮

I can't really think of anything. I enjoyed Bioshock Infinite. Played through it 3 times.

The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword is incredible and the motion controls are fantastic. Using the gamepad controls in the HD version is insane to me

Here are my 3 most controversial statements:

Final Fantasy 5 is miles better than any other Final Fantasy game. Its closest contender is Final Fantasy 6, but the battle system was flawed.

Ubisoft doesn't suck. I always liked them.

Street Fighter 2 is STILL the best fighting game ever.

@simple-facts: Have you ever played the first couple of Final Fantasy games, like 1, 4 and 5? They were miles better than the modern games. They focused on story, gameplay and challenging combat that actually required thinking.

Gaming is pretty cool and you should try to focus on the positives of a game instead of wanting the game to be something it isn't.

Watching Someone else play is not the same as playing the game yourself.

System Wars is a laugh and shouldn't be taken so seriously.

PlayStation games are perfect for the Gym.

Originality is an overrated concept. Remakes are amazing and a quality game > original game.

2D Sonic > 2D Mario. Reasons for this being that 2D Sonic games simply have far more substance. Oftentimes with open ended level design, sonic's moveset allows for a much greater level of depth. This leads to a game that is far more replayable and far more satisfying to get good at.

GTA is a bore: These games give you a lot of features and mechanics, but the depth of every single feature and mechanic has surface level depth and none of them really interact with eachother all that well. These games are also a shining example of valuing negative freedom over positive freedom.

People seem to gravitate much more towards Roblox than MineCraft these days. And for a good reason. Roblox's modding scene is one of the best in gaming. Its up there with source engine modding.

MineCraft is more popular among millenials. Who grew up with it or played it during college.

Edit: Well, it is closer than I thought. But still, if you add in popular mods like Rainbow friends. I could imagine Roblox's lead growing a bit.

• Far Cry 2 is masterpiece and didnot deserve the hate
• Metro is among greatest gaming trilogy of all time
• Spiderman is only good sony exclusive in decade. rest are some shit movie games
• STALKER 1 is still best FPS of all time. even better than likes of Half life
• Alan wake is best Third person action horror title. probably better than any of RE game
• Doom Eternal is among top 10 greatest game of all time bar none
• Prey is actually a true Bioshock game than Bioshock itself
• Deathloop is innovative title and deserve the praise it got

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is still an inferior sequel. And is the game where GS handed out 10's like it's Halloween.

(My experience, this take angers more non-sheep than the actual sheep. That gets more funny the more I think about it)

Apart from the movement, Spiderman it's a very mediocre game.

Mass Effect 3 L.E. with all the DLC is by far. I mean by light-years, the best Mass Effect and perhaps the finest Bioware game ever made. :P

I remember liking it quite a bit, after Desura went down. It was the best place to buy games here in Europe. Since Steam games were region priced.

It would kill off all of (traditional) gaming. Especially the second point is worth a facepalm. Precisely the reason why the 3DO was DOA.

Licensing to independent manufacturers made the system extremely expensive. The manufacturers had to make a profit on the hardware itself, whereas most major game console manufacturers, such as Sega and Sony, sold their systemsat a loss, with expectations of making up for the loss with software sales.

Very similar to how it is going now. The number of games with AA budgets and higher is steadily dwindling - with them quality and variety, while low budget, buggy and unfinished games, are becoming more and more numerous. Then you see those dolts praising their individual commercialism and their few noteworthy critter games... against torrents of trash.

And Microsoft is trying to emulate this "successful" businessmodel. Because... that's what MS does. After a looong nap, they reach deeply into their cash matraz, throw around money with both hands and hope they get lucky. Like... when one game virtually decided if the 360 was gonna be a 480p or 720p console.

1. There should be no console exclusives in 2023. That's like saying "my Blu-Ray player can play the latest Marvel movie, but yours cannot". Let consoles compete on their own features.
2. Graphics don't matter, its all game play.
3. Story-driven games are overrated.
4. There hasn't been true innovation in RPGs in over a decade.
5. Sony is the worst thing to happen to video games

• Sony makes good games
• Soulsborne games should have difficulty options including Story mode
• Saints Row 2022 is fun

• Xbox SSD add on > PS5 SSD add on

Souls Bourne games have shit gameplay and combat, they are too slow paced, the genre is saturated, the games all play too similar, they aren't actually difficult to beat, they are repetitive. And it's popularity has done to the 3rd person action genre what battle royal (Fortnite PUBG warzone) did to the competitive multiplayer shooter genre. Ruined it.

Japanese games are, for the most part, outdated and overrated, with terrible art direction and style, and absolutely zero subtlety. They are kitsch and gaudy, and capitalize off nostalgia while doing little to make any progress.

*Obviously I am being intentionally controversial and hyperbolic, but I do feel this way to a certain extent.
