Digital Foundry put up an article on X1s memory and the speeds it produces. Apparently tests show that the memory is incredibly capable and 88% more than MS had actually thought before.

Well-placed development sources have told Digital Foundry that the ESRAM embedded memory within the Xbox One processor is considerably more capable than Microsoft envisaged during pre-production of the console,
with data throughput levels up to 88 per cent higher in the final hardware.

Bandwidth is at a premium in the Xbox One owing to the slower DDR3 memory employed in the console, which does not compare favourably to the 8GB unified pool of GDDR5 in the PlayStation 4.
The 32MB of "embedded static RAM" within the Xbox One processor aims to make up the difference, and was previously thought to sustain a peak theoretical throughput of 102GB/s -
useful, but still some way behind the 176GB/s found in PlayStation 4's RAM set-up.
Now that close-to-final silicon is available, Microsoft has revised its own figures upwards significantly, telling developers that 192GB/s is now theoretically possible

Things just got Reaaaal interesting. Cows positives of the PS4 over X1 seem to be fading fast these days. This is shaping up to be one hell of a console war

It is still just a 32MB framebuffer. The X1 still only has 60GB/s bandwidth to the DDR3. The eSRAM can magically get stuff from the DDR3 ram at higher bandwidth then that.

Any word from MS is to be taken with a grain of salt.

Especially that GDDR 5 is going to cause PS4 to overheat...

[spoiler] Microsoft will have to do whatever they can to make sure the Cablebox One is as powerful (or even more powerful) than PS4. I have to admit, I never expected this to happen, this evens out the playing field some more. But hey, this is great. This means that multiplats will look that much better on PC and PS4/Cablebox. um it's only 32MB :| and it suggest MS are even more desperately trying to get some kind of similar performance out of the console because they know it's underpowered in comparision.

DDR3 is good for the cpu where GDDR5 is not but GDDR5 is good for the gpu where as DDR3 is slow for the gpu. In the end, both systems are comparable and games won't look different between the platforms. The X1 has its advantages where the PS4 has its advantages.

Now that close-to-final silicon is available, Microsoft has revised its own figures upwards significantly, telling developers that 192GB/s is now theoretically possibleseanmcloughlin

First of all the xbox one could read faster than it can write.

Second it could have 250GB bandwidht,if there is no power to fill it,it means nothing as the 7850 and 7870 are no bandwidth starved, neither is the 7770 or 7790,you have the bandwidth effective to your power best usage,so using 250GB bandwidth on a 1.23 TF GPU mean little.

This has sweet nothing all to do with the DDR3.  Thread is pathetic.

I think the final product of the Xbox one would come close the PS4 in terms of spec, but overtaking it would be a far cry. It also rest on the developers to take advantage of what both consoles does best, in the case of DDR3, it handles data better in short burst while the GDDR5 is super fast. I suspect the multiplatform games would look very identical, it is perhaps the exclusives that would set them apart

Doesn't make up for the fact their GPU has 50% less shader units than the PS4's.

The article says the ESRAM theoretical bandwidth has increased and the achieved bandwidth so far is upto 133GB/s. That is pretty impressive but it does not say anything about DDR3 because this has nothing to do with the DDR3. I am sure this will help in certain scenarios but the biggest issue for the Xbox1 is still the shader and fillrate deficit which cannot be magically overcome.
