1.) The sales figures are not surprising as it is an epic game and maybe even the word epic is not strong enough to describe Zelda.

2.) The smartest marketing is more like it as the gamers and fans promoted it w/o Nintendo having to do much.

That’s a great point. There was an article published recently that quotes devs/publishers stating that marketing budgets were crossing the $300-$500 million dollar mark for big titles. In many cases the marketing budget is higher than the development budget… The industry is moving in a goofy direction, and I’m glad Nintendo continues to be successful with their conventional model

Nintendo games usually sell well because their systems are starved of good games. Fans get desperate and will pick up anything decent from Nintendo. When a great game like Zelda comes along, the sales go through the roof.

Well, also Nintendo games almost never go down in price, at least not too much, so there is not incentive to wait; i got it for like the equivalent of $55 thanks to Amazon preorder price guarantee or whatever is called, haven't played it i want to play Breath of the Wild again before, but haven't had the time.

The Switch has an 845 high scoring games in total on Metacritic. And has on average had around 130ish quality games per year. If one considers metacritic to be some kind of standard for quality. The Switch clearly has plenty of choice.

The PS5 in comparison has 209 high scoring games after nearly 3 years. The PS5 has had around 80ish quality games per year.

Now, Metacritic has a lot of problems. But either way. The Switch has plenty of choice, which is heavily due to the indie dev renaissance. People just bought TotK en masse because it is a really solid entry.

It’s Nintendo, so I’m not surprised. Despite growing up with Nintendo and PlayStation, PS being my favorite, Nintendo is what always comes to mind when I think of video games. They have massive name recognition that neither Xbox or PS has, imo. Tell Gram you want Mario and she’ll more than likely know what you’re talking about. Talk PS or Xbox and you’ll probably get the opposite version of the game you’re looking for, followed shortly with confusion on what the hay an Xbox is.

Zelda could have died twice, and came back stronger both times.

Once it got revived with Twilight Princess (Declining sales)

The other time, it got revived with Breath of the Wild (Employee Morale)

@sonic_spark: The funny thing is, he believes Nintendo games would sell "fine" if they pulled an Xbox (as if MS doesn't have PC gaming history, that they've long neglected until Phil came along) or Sony (more on that later...) with PC ports, as if that guarantees good ports (*points to Last of Us, which is funny as Iron Galaxy was on both that and Metroid Prime Remastered*) and good sales (which I doubt), and the fact that he's very anti-Nintendo.

Totally expect those sales to skyrocket the moment TOTK launch and kudos to Nintendo.

I'm really enjoying it but dam I hope the updated switch improves the image quality. I haven't used my Switch in awhile as I'm mostly on PS5 and the image quality gap is jarring.

Yea, its called Twitch, insane isn't it? I am aware that you're in the desert and don't know what's happening outside of your desert, but Twitch is popular, can you imagine that?

I'm almost as big a boomer as IP on that. I get that watching randos play games is extremely popular. But the appeal is lost on me.

I do like watching others gameplay at times. But only people who are super sick, impressive play. Competitive fighting game matches. Combo mads for action games. WR class speedrunning. People who are taking these games to their limits.

Max is alright at fighting games. Actually got frustrated watching him try to play other games lol. Which has usually been the case when I've tried to watch some of these bigger streamers. Almost like watching game journo preview footage, except it never ends. Just want to reach in and take their controller. Or maybe that's the appeal? idk

Especially since Tears of the Wenzen has been damage controlling said game for about a week now,and yet he's watched someone on Twitch playing on more than one ocassion just to try and find some dirt on it to post on here.
