2016 is now at an end, and what a year it has been for games- this was the year that we had three new VR headset launches. This was the year we learned about the next wave of gaming consoles, from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo (and the year that one of them even launched). This was the year where a whole lot of big budget games released and, in a dramatic break from tradition, didn’t disappoint- the year of Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2, Uncharted 4, Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4, and DOOM all actually living up to the hype. This was the year when Overwatch exploded on to the scene. The year when long awaited games such as The Last Guardian and Final Fantasy 15 actually truly released, and turned out to have been actually worth it. The year of Pokemon, with Nintendo celebrating the franchise’s 20th anniversary, releasing Pokemon GO for smartphones, causing a second explosion of popularity for the series, and then capping it all off with Pokemon Sun/Moon for Nintendo 3DS.
It was a great year for games, and I'm glad we are bidding it farewell in style. And with the year now at an end, and all major releases having been released, now is the time to look back and try to figure out just which of the many games released this year was the very best.
And how will we do that? We will do that by using the System Wars Votes format, of course. Basically, in this thread, you vote for your favorite games of 2016. You list three games, inorder, that you feel were the best, most standout games of the year. The first game that you vote for gets 50 points, the second one gets 25 points, the third one gets 15 points- so the order you list the games in is very important. Some rules:
- You must list three games. Posts with less than three games listed will not be counted.
- You may list more than three games should you wish to- however, only the first three games you list will be counted, with the rest being treated as honorable mentions
- If you edit your post, please make sure to note exactly what you have edited, to ensure that votes can be properly tracked
- Any game released this year is eligible, including remasters- however, the game in question must have released in at least two out of the three major territories (Japan, NA, and PAL regions)
- You may do write ups on your nominated games. If you do, your write ups may feature in the results announcement thread
- You have until December 16, 11.59pm to get your votes in
Got it? It's pretty simple. Let's get down to voting for our favorite games this year, then!
