I think it is, I mean that's mad control. I know people pretty much wrote off motion control because of the ridiculous amount of shovelware that found it's way on to the Wii and inaccuracy of the accelerometers for finer movements, but this thing is a whole other level of accuracy and control.

It looks like it can be really great for legacy PC games and a few new titles, though it won´t replace my KB/M setup for FPS´s,adventure games,MMO´s of any description and almost the whole strategy genre.

I can see it working really well for twin stick shooters and MOBAs though.

I don't think anything can repace the mouse/keyboard, but I definitely think the Steam controller could possibly be the best gamepad out there.

@NFJSupreme: You act as if it will be legendary. The concept is great, but let's be honest, it looks bad and the only people hyping this are Steam fanboys

It looks like a nice pad, that will be able to handle both PC and console styled games. At the same time though, it also looks a lot worse in action than dedicated pad and KB+mouse. Heck..even in TV scenario I would rather just use mouse in some cases (as many games are playable with just mouse)

That actually looks quite good. Playing portal and Civ V looked quite easy

Well if everyone now could stick with valve and say goodbye to sony and playstation, then we would give the right signal to console manufacturers

WE DON T WANT ANY WEAK CONSOLES

WE WANT PROGRESS

and this controller is progress, if valve can now revolutionize the games with halflife 3 (like they did with hl2 and 1) , shame they don't have crytek as an exclusive on the steambox.

Crysis still looks better than any console game and...

IT WAS RELEASED MORE THAN 6 YEARS AGO

hail gabe

This looks better than other controllers. But its not as precise and fast as mouse and keyboard. Besides i would like to see a fighting game played with this

Having to lift a mouse seems tedious at first too until you realise just how much faster and more precise it is and you get used to it.

Having more control over the speed and more direct control between turns is better IMO than using a stick in its stop start approach

Looks pretty sick. I wonder if it returns to center like a regular stick (when you remove your thumb). Huh. very cool tech, just looks a little cheap.

call me crazy but i think this will be revolutionary. Since about 03 i've been asking myself why this kind of controller wasn't created. I hope by 2015 Sony releases their version because this will r*pe analogue controllers.

The Closest thing i can think of to this is the xperia play. Although no games were proprly optimised for the track pads they were very accurate and made multiplayer games easy

Probably because of the common usage of "touch" interfaces. Yeah, there were mouse pads on laptops, but people got really used to touch interfaces with iOS and Android smartphones.

@IgGy621985: Not to mention people's widespread infuriation with touchpads on laptops led to entire lines of mice made especially for laptops, and of course there's this thing

Putting a touchpad on a gamepad is kind of interesting, but it's hardly revolutionary.

@barrybarryk: It's far from revolutionary, yeah, but when you think about it, Microsoft really wanted RTS games on their console. They tried with Halo Wars and failed.

The controller was the main issue. Could we use Steam Controller for RTS games just like we use kb/m? I really doubt it, but I'm sure it will work much better in comparison to what Xbox 1 and PS4 have to offer with their controllers.

@IgGy621985: Thanks for delivering this.

Very excited about this. Design makes a lot of sense. I'm a big fan of experimentation, and fresh thinking. I'll definitely try this controller, if it's great - fantastic, if it's not great - at least I gave it a shot.

It looks extremely awkward.

I'll have to try this thing before I can even begin forming an opinion on it.

Can't possibly be as awkward as thumbsticks with shooters

I don't think this will be better than a keyboard & mouse. However, I would like to know how well it works with a console game ported to the PC.

No reason why not, the rate steam has been improving is bordering on ridiculous.
