Should youtubers reviews be included in Metacritic?

Hello friends,

So in this day and age, now there are 2 type of reviewers, youtubers and mainstream critics. Metacritic include only mainstream critics like IGN, Gamespot, Gameinformers and others and totally ignore youtubers.

I feel like their reviews should be count as metacritic reviews i mean lets face it. mainstream critics can rate any game 10/10 based on hype, popularity or they are getting paid for reivews or they may fear loosing thier jobs if they rate a popular game low. etc.

I feel like youtubers like Angry joe, Jim sterling, Worth a buy, Gmanlives can speak anything without getting Fear of loosing the jobs. they cover elements that mainstream critics could never.

So my point is, should youtubers be count in metacritic? or not?

I believe Jim Sterling is already on metacritic. At the end of the day, this is just spin on your part. Claiming 100+ reviewers are all paid off while YouTubers are innocent is just silly. You're trying to make up a narrative. I already provided you with a link to Angry Joe's review of Doom Eternal where he had product placement for Doom themed products.

You have more information at your disposal than ever before, take the time, research multiple sources, spend your money make your choice. A reviews inclusion in an aggregator is neither here nor there imo, as long as people can access it and inform themselves that's enough for me.

All they have to do is go submit a user score. YouTubers are a different breed. When it comes to gaming, many just complain. They don't really have rational thought. I don't think they should be lumped in with "professionals" but frankly, I don't listen to the professionals either.

No, the market is flooded by enough fake reviews as it is. If you’re a reviewer with gaming ads splashed all over your review - I can’t possibly take you seriously. Youtubers are in the same sponsored boat too.

I think OpenCritic counts reviews from some YouTubers.

I'm not entirely against the idea but, there does need to be some sort of qualification like number of subscribers etc. Otherwise, you might as well include user reviews in the critic reviews.

@Telekill: I agree, many are low hanging fruit part of the outrage for clicks shtick shitting the hottest takes they can, Youtube actively rewards this kind of mentality.

Having said that don't really trust traditional media either, alot of them a far left leaning activists who can barely play games more interested in their pseudo -intellicual ramblings.

youtubers are no better than mainstream reviewers, most of them would do/say anything to keep their subscribers happy. imagine if guys like angry joe, jim sterling or pewdiepie give TLoU2 a 10 out of 10 when the cool thing to do is to hate on the game right now, they'd start losing subscribers left and right imo.

Another thread in this yarn is not being able to "try before you buy." Who would need a review if you could find out for yourself? Steam allows a trial period, but they start getting sassy if you try that too frequently. I never tried gamefly and I don't if it still exists. Gamepass offers some options, if you want yet another subscription service.

Be careful of what you so willingly throw away.

I really don't care about Metacritic and even if YT reviewers add it, I still wouldn't care. When it comes to YT reviewers, we go for data, game footage, and opinions if the game itself is worth buying.

Established reviewers such as Angry Joe sure. Random YouTubers though, no. They are ‘user reviews’. Way too many and way too random to aggregate I would imagine.

I think Ghost should be on metacritic. I need someone who rates games based on how many women are included, and if so how muscular they are.

While i dont have a problem with people who do video reviews on youtube,they are more pront to blind fanboysm than most site would by a land slide and you know it.

Only if publishers make them follow the same rules as journalists. The amount of things I had spoiled for Last of Us 2 simply because streamers had screen capped key parts of the game for their playthrough vids was absurd. Gamespot, IGN, etc, would never have been allowed to do something like that. If they get review copies, they should have to follow the same rules.

EDIT: Also, no. They shouldn't be included on MetaCritic scores. They're not professionally trained journalists that know how to review something objectively; they're subjective gamers with webcams.

Youtubers are absolutely worthless. Professional reviewers at the very least don't give a damn about the backlash and score the game how they want to.

I've seen Youtubers purposely avoid TLOU2 because they're afraid of getting bombed and losing subs. They're worthless.

Bullshit they pander to certain devs and score games higher than what their reviews read. Death Stranding is a perfect recent example of this.

Take the LOUS2 review here where the reviewer says i'm not sure if I like the game and scores it and 8 which on this site means great.

Youtubers are the mainstream critics, not the publications.

However, although it is an interesting idea, I don't think Youtubers should be counted because they are vulnerable to paid reviews and being influenced by marketing, unlike professional publications that have a hard line between the editorial team and the business team.

By-and-large... No. Professional reviews should come under solid scrutiny as well... I can't be sure how they weigh between certain sites/publications. Shit, even Vice (lol) was contacted by a Sony "representative", to address their review.

Just an aggregate site that chooses who to include and how they're weighted with zero transparency to the process. Takes the already lulzy critical side this of this medium, scrapes the numbers off the top, runs it through whatever weird ass logic they choose to apply, and spits out a useless number.

lol no. Angry Joe is pretty trash and his videos are fairly cringe worthy. It's half filled with inaccurate complaints and jokes that fall flat. It makes sense as he's not very good at games, even by his own account. At the end o the day meta-critic shouldn't matter much either. Go out and play what you want, enjoy, and move on with your life.
