People say that PC gaming is expensive to get into. You have to pay a pricey CPU and GPU to even get good results, Right? It looks like that has changed.

Intel recently released the Pentium G4560, which goes for a MSRP of about ~$70. It is a Kaby Lake dual core CPU, that has Hyperthreading. 2 Cores / 4 Threads. Pair this with an AMD Radeon RX 470 and you can build a capable Very High 1080p/~60fps gaming machine for ~$450.

Note to PC Gamers: Look at the benchies, a 2C/4T CPU is more than capable to game on. Kaby Lake's high IPC with HT makes it doable.

So for a few bucks more than a PS4 Pro (if you count PS+ fees, PC is cheaper), you can get into a system that;

  1. Cheaper games.
  2. Superior and Free Online Play.
  3. Better Performance and Graphics.
  4. More user choice.
  5. Access to more games!
I'll be comparing this G4560 + RX 470 PC with a PS4 Pro in 1080p. Most of us would prefer higher frame rates than a "fake" 4K resolution, so that is that. If you prefer checkerboarding, well PS4 Pro is the option to go for.

Benchmarks:

  • Battlefield 1
PC 1080p Ultra Quality = Avg 77 fps
    PS4 Pro 1080p Med/High = Avg 52 fps

  • DOOM
PC 1080p Ultra Quality w/ Vulkan = Avg 166 fps
PS4 Pro (No Pro Patch) 1080p High Quality = Avg 60fps

  • Overwatch
    PC 1080p Ultra = Avg 134 fps
    PS4 Pro 1080p High = Avg 60fps

  • F1 2016
PC 1080p Ultra Settings = Avg 65 fps
PS4 Pro (No Pro Patch) 1080p "High" = Avg 55 fps

  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
PC 1080p Max Quality = Avg 76 fps
    PS4 Pro 1080p High = Avg 54 fps

  • Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
PC 1080p Very High = Avg 50 fps
    PS4 Pro High "Downsampled" 1080p = Avg 28 fps

  • Rise of the Tomb Raider
PC 1080p Very High Quality = Avg 77 fps
    PS4 Pro 1080p High Frame Rate Mode - Med/High Quality = Avg 42 fps

  • Far Cry Primal
    PC 1080p Ultra = Avg 55fps
PS4 Pro (No Pro Patch) 1080p High = Avg 30fps

  • The Division
PC 1080p Ultra Quality = Avg 58 fps
    PS4 Pro 1080p High Quality = Avg 30 fps

  • Hitman
PC 1440p Ultra Quality = Avg 49 fps
    PS4 Pro 1440p High Quality = Avg 42 fps

  • Mirror's Edge Catalyst
    PC 1080p Ultra = Avg 64 fps
    PS4 Pro (No Pro Patch) 900p Med/High = Avg 60fps

  • Grand Theft Auto V
PC 1080p High Quality = Avg 78 fps
    PS4 Pro (No Pro Patch) 1080p Med/High = Avg 30 fps

Imagine if you went to a car dealership and they told you that you could get a car that has 5 more horse power than your current car but It can't drive on certain roads (exclusives) and it will only cost 20% more. So you ask to look at the car and they show you a pile of car parts and tires and shit and tell you that you have to build the shit yourself. Does that sound like a good deal to you? That's basically how it sounds every time one of you windows fanboys tries to make one of these threads espousing some turdtastic bootleg PC that is supposedly so much better then PS4.

LOL the Pentium G4560 is running at 3.50 ghz. The jaguar is running at 1.6. Also, the two cores in the Pentium are running two threads each. It's like it's a quad core. I'm sorry, but the Pentium destroys the jaguar. Got a PS4 myself. That machine is a lag fest in the user interface. It can't even handle me selecting another option without old android style lag. PS4 is pathetic.

It's more like, you went to get a car and they told you that you could get a car that has a lot more horse power than your current car, it can't drive on certain roads that your current car does but then again it can drive whole continents of roads that your current car doesn't, it can also make coffee, give you a haircut and do your taxes and it will only cost 20% more.

@ShadowDeathX: Yep, good job, you can build a PC that runs games better than consoles...... Literally everybody who cares knows this. The only reason you feel the need to argue about it is because people still want consoles because they just want consoles, and PC gamers just can't get over that, for some reason. Not everybody wants to deal with PC gaming. They want a box with a controller that plugs into their TV and works exactly like it should. It's that simple. PC gaming isn't that simple. Even if you have a kick ass PC that can run literally anything, it's not that simple. PC gaming is a different beast. It's awesome, and I love gaming on my PC, but that doesn't represent the majority of gamers.

Console gaming is simple and easy, and it appeals to most gamers who just want to play games and not worry about anything other than just playing their games, and there's nothing wrong with that. Comparing a PC build to a PlayStation is futile, and thoroughly a waste of your time.

PC gaming has its own advantages over consoles, but PC gamers shouldn't assume the majority of gamers are, or should be, interested in PC gaming. It's not for most gamers. And it never will be.

Ok but can I play Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, TLOU 2, Spiderman, God of War, Horizon, Days Gone, Detroit, Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2, Persona 5, Yakuza 0, Kingdom Hearts, Ratchet & Clank, Dragon Quest XI, etc on a PC? Has RDR 2 even been confirmed for PC?

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Project-CARS-Hits-Some-Hardware-Limits-Xbox-One-PS4-61215.html

A single core from high clocked Intel Core I Series roughly equals to four Jaguar CPU cores

“It’s been challenging splitting the renderer further across threads in an even more fine-grained manner – even splitting already-small tasks into 2-3ms chunks. The single-core speed is quite slow compared to a high-end PC though so splitting across cores is essential.

“The bottlenecks are mainly in command list building – we now have this split-up of up to four cores in parallel. There are still some bottlenecks to work out with memory flushing to garlic, even after changing to LCUE, the memory copying is still significant.”

AMD Athlon X4 845 (3.5 Ghz base clock with 3.8 Ghz turbo) Excavator V1 with 4 threads rivals Intel Core i3-6100 (3.7 Ghz base clock) with 4 threads.

AMD Excavator V1 needs 14 nm FinFET to further lower it's power consumption.

In terms of out-of-the-box mass production, inserting a GPU card into slot incurs a labor cost.

The PS4 has exclusives. And damn good ones at that. Spend as little or as much money as you like on a PC. If you want PS4 exclusives, you need a PS4.

Those who buy console are not looking for power they are looking for games. PS 4 got exclusive games that PC doesn't. So a PC regardless of its it's power isn't going to be appealing to them.

And I know PC got more exclusive but most of the console users are not interested in strategy or f2p games.

@Random_Matt: how do you define useless?

It won't get you 60fps constantly after 2 years sure but it would still run better than console. And you don't always have to use ultra settings so you got that option too if you prefer fps over graphics.

@ronvalencia: I think you have something mixed up there. The i3 shown in those graphs is the i3-6100TE 35w model that runs at 2.7Ghz not a 3.7Ghz i3-6100.

As shown in this GTAV graph the actual 3.7Ghz i3-6100 is a good 10 fps away from the x4 845:

@silversix_: you're trolling right? Or are you actually that dumb to believe more cores = better.

8 x 1.6 is more than 2 x 3.5, it's basic math dude.

@vfighter: No it's dumb. Nobody in the damn world can assemble a car on their own and assembling it is more expensive than building it yourself. It's a dumb analogy.

You don't know much about cars, do you?

Noone is stupid enough to think that in PS4 PRO hides something beasty , not majority even.

At least though SONY delivers in exclusives area , there are plenty of reasons to own a PS4 alongside a PC as a secondary console unlike .. X1 or even Scorpio later on.

Switch is a handheld , i wont even talk about it as a powerhouse console but in my opinion , even Switch is more appealing than X1/Scorpio because of its exclusives even it is as weak as F

The PS Pro was never a contender anyway. Weak sauce with no games. PC trumps all.

@walloftruth: Please tell me how one can assemble a chassis and put a 600lbs engine inside a car and the body on the chassis. Nobody can buy all the parts and just assemble it on their own.

I guess you don't get why people buy PS4 over PC. There have always been PC's that were more powerful at the price point.

A 10 minute YouTube video and less than an hour of tinkering on your own and any ape can put together a PC. That car analogy was so damn stupid,

You don't need a car analogy.

It's simple Mr customer we have this assembled product for $299 that plays games right out of the box.

Or

Here is a $70 CPU. Run around the store finding components for the rest of it and you can bring it home and put it together for about $450.

@whiskeystrike:

A lot of people will be just as nervous putting a pc together as a car.

The point is a lot of people don't want to put a PC together. Maybe it's fear, lack of knowledge or simply not wanting the hassle.

It's not complicated.

@vfighter: I was using an hyperbole. Now please can you show me a video of someone assembling a car on their lonesome?
