Poll RE4 PC VS Wii (66 votes)

PC 65%
WII 35%

Hey, BRO! What is the best version of this game ported on everything mankind has ever known?

Wii - wiimote

Drawback is that the game can be too easy

PC - 60fps/downsampled 4k/forced ambient occlusion/mouse and keyboard better than Xbox360 pad

Mouse can make sniping too easy

Easily PC, everything is better and the Wiimote has an irritating input lag.

I didn't notice it. The wiimote is good to the point that you can practically point and headshot enemies then proceed to knife them. The mouse and keyboard is far more responsive than the Xbox pad - but still not quite as good.

Having said that, the game itself is deeply flawed and easily exploitable if you want to be a cheap dick about it.

I noticed it immediately when I tried it on the Wii. The difference is pretty big when coming from a gaming m+kb with zero noticeable input lag. I guess it becomes somewhat acceptable after playing awhile though.

Wii controls feel right for this game but it goes without saying the PC version looks better.

After putting so much time into the Gamecube, PS2, and Wii versions, I just never touched the PC version. Might try it on my next go with the game.

The most fun I had was with the Gamecube version, but that's just because it was the first place I played it. I was just shocked at how great the game was.

Came here to post the link to the re4hd mod... but looks like yall beat me to the punch. Glad this mod is catching wind, played the demo and it revitalized the game. Can't wait for the full release.

No they didnt, they just asked which was best port, and even mentioned WiiMote in the TC. And no, Wiimote isnt on PC, its not supported by Windows.

I think that's telling though. When part of the challenge comes from the controller, that's not a good thing.

I agree. Hacks and mods don't count. They never work perfect and the games were not designed to properly use the wiimote.

I'd rather not bet on a buggy experience. On Wii it works without needing to go to youtube.

Reminds me of mouse controls on all PC FPS's. You're basically putting your finger on the screen to target enemies. So easy it's almost cheating.

@HalcyonScarlet: I don't know about that statement. Take Mario kart for Wii, the motion controls are inferior to a GameCube or nunchuck controls, but people enjoy it immensely. Brawl for Wii is magnitudes (ok slight exaggeration) better with a GameCube controller than nunchuck and wiimote if you are to ask anyone serious about the game, yet I know many who use the wiimote and are better on it.

I think that's telling though. When part of the challenge comes from the controller, that's not a good thing.

Games designed around the mouse and keyboard (e.g. Quake) are generally faster to account for the precision.

A good example if AVP2000 - the alien creatures move very rapidly, even with a mouse and keyboard they can be difficult to target.

In the later, console designed AVP - they come very slowly at the player and present no challenge and remove any sense of tension or threat.

In the case of Resident Evil 4 - the hobbled precision was taken into account for the original platform.

Pro mod alleviates this by increasing the speed, damage and lower stagger chance but mouse look can easily be exploited - the final boss can be killed in literally 30 seconds as can many as they are all dependent on specific hit areas.

Don't know, don't care. Motion controls are the worst control option for any game, especially with the inaccurate Wiimote.

It's uncomfortable, fatigues your arm, difficult to aim, shakey, the aiming spazzes out randomly, and you have to sit/stand in a specific spot or else your movements won't register.

Don't know why anyone would ever subject themselves to that.

The definitive RE4 experience is playing Wii Edition on Dolphin with mods.

Ultimate HD Edition improved the textures and added a 60fps option, but it was a downgrade in most other ways, lacking the specular lighting and DoF effects of the GameCube & Wii versions and lacking the Wiimote support of the Wii Edition, while the HD textures are uneven and the 60fps mode is poorly optimized. The problem with the Ultimate HD Edition is that it used the inferior PS2 version as a base, instead of using the superior GameCube and Wii versions as a base.

Playing Wii Edition on Dolphin with mods gives the best of both worlds, combining the specular lighting, DoF effects and Wiimote support of the Wii Edition along with higher-quality HD textures than the Ultimate HD Edition. Also, it plays best with the Wiimote, which improves the accuracy and gameplay.

"Don't know, don't care." Way to be proud of your ignorance. RE4 doesn't really use motion controls. It uses the wiimote pointer for shooting. It's 100% more accurate than any analog stick. Your kind of close minded thinking is why gaming never moves forward beyond what people are comfortable with. I'm not a fan of motion controls either but there were certain control set ups that were exceptional. Mostly when they are used minimally in traditional games. I.e. metroid prime, mario galaxy, splatoon, RE4.

Using a wiimote is motion controls lol. Have played many shooters on Wii and every single one controlled like hot garbage. Unless RE4 happens to be some extreme exception where the Wii controller somehow has better tracking and the tech inside the controller changes, then no, RE4 doesn't control better on Wiimote than kb/m or controller. Motion controls are awful for every single game they're in.

Wii

It's on a disc, wii mote is great for easy shooting, has the ps2 content and you can also use the OG gamcube controls if you play it on a BC Wii. The jaggies will cut your eyeballs at first but you get used to it :P

I guess you don't understand how RE4 on the Wii works.

Lightgun controls and motion controls are two different things. Wiimote is both a lightgun and a motion controller. RE4 uses Wiimote as a lightgun, not a motion controller. It doesn't use the Wiimote's motion-tracking, but only uses its lightgun pointer function, which is more accurate than a mouse or analog stick, making the Wiimote a much better controller for lightgun shooters (a genre that is almost unplayable on analog stick or mouse because of their comparative lack of accuracy).

Wiimote is the best controller for RE4, largely because RE4's core aiming and shooting mechanics make it play almost like an off-rail lightgun shooter. Its core stop & shoot mechanic comes from lightgun shooters, making it distinct from most other TPS/FPS games, most of which use a run & gun mechanic. Wiimote plays poorly with 3D run & gun shooters (it handles awkwardly when running and shooting at the same time), but the Wiimote is by far the superior controller for stop & shoot games like RE4 and lightgun shooters.
