Considering Ps2's retail for $100, that doesn't sound very impressive.angelkimneThey're giving you 100% of it's value
That's a rip off. If gonna take the offer, make sure you trade in 3 games that are really bad or are worth almost nothing. majadamusJust goto a different gamestop then the one your going to buy the PS3 at and but 3 2 dollar games.
[QUOTE="angelkimne"]Considering Ps2's retail for $100, that doesn't sound very impressive.Michael324They're giving you 100% of it's value Actually they aren't. It's a PS2 with 2 games.
It's a bad trade simply because the PS3's available at retail now have no BC. If you are upgrading to a PS3 you might as well keep your old PS2.
With no BC that's a terrible deal. There are still more games for PS2 out that I want to play compared to PS3 games.
PS2 games I still want to play:
Rogue Galaxy
Tales of the Abyss
Odin Sphere
Artonellica 1 & 2
Eternal Poison
Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2
Devil Summoner 1 & 2
Persona 5
Yakuza 2
Dawn of Mana
Radiata Stories
Grim Grimoire
Atelier Iris
Growlancer Generations
Suikoden Tactics, 3, 4, 5
Valkerie Profile
PS3 games I want to play:
Disgaea 3
Valkyria Chronicles
White Knight Chronicles
Little Big Planet
Cross Edge
Atelier Rorona
Yakuza 3

[QUOTE="angelkimne"]Considering Ps2's retail for $100, that doesn't sound very impressive.Michael324They're giving you 100% of it's value I know! That's the greatest deal I ever heard at Gamestop! What is he thinking?
Edit. Oh 3 games huh? Well that's the normal Gamestop I know and love.
This is a terrible deal that at first might look good.
Current PS3 models dont have backward compatibility.
PS2 is worth 100 dollars alone, throw in the 3 games that Gamestop will actually take (which means they're probably good titles worth at least 30-40 dollars in value as new), you're looking at $200+ worth of your stuff to get a measly $100 off a PS3.
Has anyone heard about it? You get $100 off a ps3 when you trade in your ps2 with 3 games.Michael324
Thats how I got my PS3 in 2007, I traded my 360 and PS2, paid $160 for the 80gb Motorstorm PS3......to me it was worth it.
unless you spend 1000 on a used 60 gig or find an old 80 gig laying aaround this deal is a rip
100 for ps2 , is a good deal but with 2 games i dont think so ,
your getting 70 for the ps2 and 10-20 for the games,
so ya rip off,
because newer ps3 dont play ps2
do the math , youll end up rebuying ps2 , lol

Why? not everyone gives a shot about ps2 games.
They had this deal back around the time of the PS3's release.Well not exactly. It was the PS2, memory card, and two controllers.
At the time PS3s were BC so I took it. I'm so glad I got a PS3 early on. I couldn't live without BC
That was actually a pretty good deal, considering the BC. But if that element is not in the equation, then no gamer worth his salt should even consider it.They had this deal back around the time of the PS3's release.Well not exactly. It was the PS2, memory card, and two controllers.

Yeah ... but only if those three games were free :D
Considering Ps2's retail for $100, that doesn't sound very impressive.angelkimneThat's actually pretty good. You gotta love Gamestop though. I bet that they do this because they've got PS3s just sitting while the PS2 had a major boost in sales when the price dropped. They probably crunched some numbers and figured that this would boost the # of used PS2s they own (and can sell) and convert people to buying more PS3 and PS3 games, which may be more profitable than the end result of a Sony PS2 price drop and then still lowballing on what they'll buy a PS2 back for. The nerd in me wants to run to Excel and see if I can make this work on a spreadsheet.

I wonder if they would take my old DRE'd fatty PS2? I can't part with my slim because it allows me to play imports... but even then the PS3 doesn't offer full BC, so it wouldn't be worth it at all.
I heard there was a download to make your PS3 play PS2 games, not sure how well it works. I am sure Sony knows about it, not sure if they are behind it.MoonMarvel
I believe Sony could do this if they wanted to (but they havent). However, it is next to impossible for homebrewed PS2 emulation on a PS3.
I hope someday Sony releases PS2 games on PSN :)
it depends on whether or not you need the money off the price in order to get a PS3 and if you are going to still be playing PS2 games.
I have both of them but it took me awhile to save up enough for a PS3 and i would have been tempted because my 6 year old PS2 is no longer worth much at all.
BC was removed to lower the price and make the console more stable and less costly. if you pay attention you will notice that the small percentage problems there are have been the PS3 are happening almost completely with the early models, the ones that HAD that ps2 backward compatibility.
BC hasnt meant squat since the fall of the first year for the PS3. Seriously, no one is going to regularly play PS2 games over Uncharted, MGS4, Killzone, etc. -ArchAngeL-777-The PS2 outsold the PS3 in the month US for the month of April. If you saw a ratio of PS2 sales vs PS3 or 360 sales for every region, I think you'd see that there are a HUGE number of people that would still rather play a PS2 than a PS3/360.

Yeah I don't think I could do it if it wasn't BC
