@Pedro: Assassin's Creed Valhala

Cool. I started playing but decided on finishing Origin. Now that Origin is done, I am wondering if I should finish Odyssey before jumping into Valhalla. 🤔

Without spoiling anything there is one key point in the modern-era story that carries on to Valhalla so perhaps it is better to at least know about it before so you wouldn't be too confused.

Other than that I say Odyssey was a great game but the world felt too "copy/paste", something I feel was rectified in Valhalla. Valhalla also improved tons in terms of stealth mechanics making it, to me, the best AC game in years.

Working my way through Grim Dawn

And playing some Anno 1800 after a long break. Lots of new DLC to play! And good DLC, too, not just cosmetic crap.

@mrbojangles25: Diablo 2 resurrected reveal has really given me that ARPG itch.

How's Grim Dawn? I've heard really great things about it.

It's awesome. Basically what Diablo 3 should've been.

Seems like they remembered what Diablo is about with Diablo IV, so I'm looking forward to seeing more of that at least.

I had way more fun with Diablo 3 the second time around:

  • No insane lag in singleplayer sessions (120+ ping all the time)
  • Way better loot progression, and getting actual loot for your class
  • Mixing and matching powers instead of just linear progression of skills

But yeah Grim Dawn is overall a way more accomplished game.

I remember getting dirty underwear in that game and that gave me the ability to throw poo, which caused maximum damage to my enemies.

If you like these sort of games I recommend Torchlight 2 as well :)

@R4gn4r0k: Yeah, played Torchlight 1 and 2 and found both largely meh. Kinda like Diablo for casuals/children coupled with pretty boring environments and enemies.

The art style would make it seem so, and yeah Torchlight 1 is simplistic. But Torchlight 2 feels like a true evolution of the genre Diablo 2 set in stone.

Yeah it is really great. Highly recommend. Class theorizing is fun, and the gameplay is excellent. Still a fairly active online, too. Been playing Grim Dawn off and on since early access and I still enjoy it.

While you're at it, might as well look into Titan Quest; it's essentially the same thing (same developer), but instead of taking place in a grim pre-industrial-fantasy setting like Grim Dawn, it takes place in various mythological regions (Greece, Egypt, China, etc).

There's also a Warhammer ARPG that's pretty fun if you don't set your standards too high.

They're good games but they definitely capitalized on nostalgia and there's not really a whole lot of depth.

Torchlight 2 might be a much better game than Torchlight 1, though; might want to give it a chance.

I like the pet companions though!

@R4gn4r0k: I think Grim Dawn fosters creativity and experimentation with skill sets way better than Diablo 3s hot swap. It's just a much deeper experience all around (without being oppressively complex). I'm of the mind that the hot swap just trivializes the whole experience in D3.

It's pretty neat, different if anything. Could see it being really fun for some local mp. Definitely early access af right now though, super slim on content/modes/features.

Really cool in motion.

I ACTUALLY LIKE THE ANIMATIONS on it. Like in real life, there's actually quite some janky looking moves. I love how there's a a lot of appearance of hesitancy in motion.

Star Wars Squadrons in VR - the screenshots look like ass... not even remotely similar to what you see in the headset. But there you have it. Freaking awesome fun, actually. EA did... something right?

@Pedro: it was just a joke of course. That being said, they've also ruined many things dear to me over the years, so I wouldn't call my skepticism of EA "bandwagoning" but "informed distrust of anything they put out"

Fair enough. Too many jokes are transformed in to actual beliefs. That is the essence of this forum after all. 😎

Valheim is an oddly beautiful game. Between the sounds, lighting, and the contrast with the dated (but still great) textures...it's just a really great game, too. Like an oil painting; the more you stare at it, the more real it looks. Beyond real, really.

The Steam page says "partial controller support". Not sure exactly what that means.

Do you have a Steam Controller? You can make that thing work with everything.

I have access to a Steam Controller. I have to look into this game to see if it something that would interest me.

Yeah it is one game where I jumped on the bandwagon and was not disappointed.

Incredible success story, too. Sold like five million copies in a matter of a few weeks. Not bad for a five-person studio.

If you got friends to play with, it's probably even better.

Also seems like a very community-centric game, too. There's already groups based on saving people's corpses (where their hard-earned loot might be) as the game is very difficult. Another game like this is Elite: Dangerous, where the "Fuel Rats" group will come and rescue you if you run out of gas. I Love stuff like that, where just the act of helping is fun.

@Pedro: It has native Xbox controller support.

Both Xbox 360 and One controllers work.

It supports the controller, but the game's not built for it. It may get finicky.

Hey mods @davillain-@xantufrog

I don't know if there's enough interest for that but may I suggest that we perhaps sticky this thread? Or maybe close it and make a brand new stickied one? It sometimes gets lost and shuffled between other threads and I just found it floating on the 2nd page.

Just a suggestion 😊

Booted up P5S and just took a couple random screens as I only played around 20 mins... Will hopefully post more if I remember.

Really liking that it builds upon the P5 story, but i've yet to dig into the gameplay.

And it's a very good suggestion. I recommend that @xantufrog or you @lebanese_boy to do the honors cause I don't want my name to be on the sticky/thread creator as I already have my account on the lounge itself.

To be retired, and replaced by a bigger, bolder, Y2K compliant thread
