If most of the features of DX12 is already involved with X1, how come it still can't hit 1080p? I'll be positive and wait until the whole thing happens.

Something I've been trying to tell people since this whole DX12 hype malarky started. The software isn't going to make a fill-rate bound GPU/APU any less fill-rate bound. DX12 is more like changing the transmission and differential in a car than changing the motor. Kind of the best way I can describe it. The greatest potential for actual performance gains are going to be in terms of memory management with the ESRAM which will make it a bit more accessible than the current SKU tools.

As far as having a magic 1080p button. Not happening. The limitations are there and games that use differed rendering will still suffer the same way they are with the current tools.

@Shewgenja: @Boddicker: glad I'm not the only one who could bath in the sweet nectar of Arby's sauces... And yes, it more relevant to wax over fast food restaurants condiments than mythical powers trapped within a game console.

The actual DirectX 12 API is obviously going to bring some improvements to the way the console handles things but anyone who is hoping for some dramatic game changer is delusional.

I want to like it so badly, I just can't do it. Infinite sadness and despair.

Also, it would be fun if MS had some sort of software trick up its sleeve that would leapfrog the PS4. That or they could just buy out EA and make all the sports games exclusive. That would be pretty fun, too.

Someone needs to shake this industry up.

@clyde46: Arby's is a fast food joint in the US. It's like an endangered species... They make Roast (Ar) Beef (By's) sandwiches with special secret sauce... When I was a kid I thought their food was made from people from the country of Arbinia... Needless to say the Arbinians are an oppressed people, but they're damn delicious.

@musicalmac: yeah... I mean this generation doesn't seem to have the same giddyup as we're accustom and someone taking on the industry with forward thought and some risk taking would be nice... I mostly wonder if the stream boxes are inbound for the near future. Pc's seemingly out class the consoles out of the gate this time around. How many years can they last?

Resolution is tied with shader throughput and fill rate that cannot change. DX12 aims to keep the GPU pipeline filled with minimum CPU load which allows more geometries to be rendered per frame, and hence higher frame rates. Of course you can trade FPS for resolution but the gain is not proportional. The X1's architecture will benefit more from DX12 in raising FPS, and I think that's what developers will shoot for.
