Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter is back with more predictions, this time speaking at the London Games Conference. Pachter stated he expects the PS4 to outsell the Xbox One due to a lower price. He places the PS4 selling between 100 and 120 million units during its lifetime, with the Xbox One selling between 90 and 110 million units. As for the Wii U, Pachter says to expect around 30 million units for its lifetime sales. Pachter had this to say about Wii U sales:

“We think 30 million is where [Wii U] is set. If you are a Nintendo fan bitching about my opinion on Wii U, stop, put your money where your mouth is and buy a Wii U.”

In addition, Pachter says that consoles may be a fading trend and could be irrelevant in 10 years time, as recent architecture makes them more like gaming PCs than ever before, along with the expansion of the mobile market making gaming more than a sit at home experience.

I don’t think the console market will get any bigger. The console installed base has peaked. Consoles may not be relevant in 10 years. We have expanded the market beyond the hardcore console owner. We now have ten times the audience over the internet, six times the audience over mobile. And I think one day you’ll get to play any game, anywhere on any device.”

The PlayStation 4 launches this Friday, November 15th in America with the Xbox One launching next Friday on November 22nd.

Neither the PS4 nor the Xbox One will hit 100 million. This will not happen. I don't care what Patcher hypes, no matter if he thinks what you like or what I like will win, the man is so wrong so often its a joke.

I will be soon. I think Super Mario 3D World will put its games at a critical mass. The X1 and PS4 on the other hand...

I think he's spot on, I agree with everything in the OP.

I said I wouldn't buy one until there's at least two games I want. However if by some miracle I can get a deluxe + 3D Mario for ~£200 I'm in!

The is mostly right when it comes to sales, but he isn't always right. I like the guy and think he does speak a lot of truth, but he is just saying stuff just as the other person. So people shouldn't take this very serious

I do agree that WiiU users need to put their money where their mouths are but I say it mostly as software. Most of them whine and complain about why their console isn't getting said game and when they finally do get the game, only 1/10th of them complaining actually go and buy it.

If I complain about a game not being on the console of my choice and it finally does come, I go and buy the game.

I'm still waiting for some RPGs to materialize on the system before I even consider it.

You say most wii u owners complain about not getting games, then not buy them when they come. But there hasn't even been an opportunity for them to do that.

Not too sure about those figures for One and PS4 tbh unless their lifetimes are long. The releases are at a fairly good time and hype is fairly high in gamer circles, but it just doesn't seem right.

I also don't necessarily agree with his statement on the WiiU really. I can totally understand why many fans still aren't willing to get it. If a console doesn't have games that pop out and grab you, then irregardless of if your a fan or not, logic should kick in and tell you not to get one yet. Of course their is a lot of people that will buy on a whim, but the people who are thinking ahead will wait for good bundles and good games, especially on something that doesn't have the immediate advantages over the other newer consoles.

Eh. I'm going to buy what I want and skip what I don't. If a game comes out on the Wii U that has a better version on the PC, I'm not going to buy the Wii U version. I honestly don't care one bit if most multiplats never show up on the Wii U. I guess a few sports games that are at least as good as the PS3 versions would be nice.

I have said I might be tempted to get one in 2014. If Mario 3D World ends up being incredible maybe earlier but with Smash and Mario Kart and maybe Zelda following in 2014 it could tempt me that year.
