Starting in Ruby/Saphire, you could only get the box legendary for their specific version.

I'm pretty sure you could get both. In Silver Lugia would be catchable first at lvl 40, then Ho oh at like lvl 70, and vice versa for gold.

This. I was talking about the original, and as you said it just switched which you got first. I never owned one after Gold and Silver, so I guess that has changed.

Yeah it seems like you can get both lugia and ho-oh in gen 2.

Anyway the version differences are small and basically boil down to pokemon differences. For instance Iin B/W you either get white forest or black city depending on version, but it doesn't really matter.

It's only the 3rd game aka Yellow / Crystal / Emerald / Platinum that have significant changes.

Pokemon Y for me, i got some other friends that are going to get X or Y also and we're all going to get different starters so we can breed our own and trade them off.

I've never been more excited about a game since SSBB. Pokemon Red was one of the first games I've ever played, and it is the best game I've played. Pokemon will always be a part of my childhood, and it brings a tear to my eyes to know that there's some kid out there who's first pokemon game is going to be x/y. I imagine that kid will look back and wonder how people ever played a 2D pokemon. I'll just pat his back, and tell him, "It was great, son." And then we'll both start playing the story, him or her enjoying the game for the first time and me reliving one of the best moments of my childhood.

It's gonna be great for a single player run.

If I want to train some EV's though, I would like the option to turn animations off.
