read the second post on this page

i explained why FF games aren't milked

CDUB316

so you saying all final fantasy games dont share certain elements? main mario games only share certain elements as well they all have a different theme for the game and they take a while to make...

sure they share the names of spells and summons....but that's about it

music, world, characters, story....it's all fresh

the moogles are a character and they are in way more then one final fantasy game and yes thats my point main mario games are completely fresh just with the same characters they always trying to offer something different succeed or fail

well yea they have their "trademark" appearances....like they use the name cid in every game since FF2

but those occurrencescan hardly justify FF games being called milk

and yea i understand....i'm not calling mario milked whatsoever

yea i was actually agreeing with you from the beginning which is why i said if mario is milked then a whole bunch of games are too (final fantasy was the first that came to mind) i dont think final fantasy is milked either its always fresh and entertaining.

Anything Activision can get their hands on.

Mario, zelda, halo

but being a milked franchise aint always a bad thing unless its guitar hero which after 3 has turned into a laughable joke and turning more people to rock band

To be fair, Mario did have 20 years to rack up so many games and the vast majority of them are spinoffs, and the majority of the spinoffs are quality ones (except for the earlier edutainment games and the Mario Party series, which thankfully have been killed off). Until this gen, main Mario games usually come once every generation, and every one of them introduces new elements (even Super Mario Sunshine brought in the water cannon and storytelling) whether it worked or not.

Those are all SEPARATE games. How many of those games have received less than a 7.0 on gamespot reviews? How many of them have received less than an 8.0 for that matter? Milking would be if Nintendo constantly was releasing REALLY BAD games. I can't recall a Mario based game that has been legitimately BAD.wiretoss

BUT NINTENDO IS STILL MILKING THE MARIO NAME!

However there is nothing wrong with Mario.

I'm going to quote myself for the 3rd time!

"Oh but the Milk is GOOD!"

Under your logic, Mickey Mouse would've been milked just as badly. Mario is an icon that is family friendly, something that no other gaming series apart from Pokemon can ever be.

Mario, Zelda, Metroid. C'mon, Nintendo, try something new.

Jfisch93

There's a difference between a franchise being milked, and it being around for a long time.

Being milked is when a ton of games come out in a short period of time.

Also, it's easily Guitar Hero.

Point being, Mario and Mickey Mouse can get away with being milked because they're both highly marketable icons. More kids recognized Mickey Mouse and Mario than any other gaming icon. Mario is in a league of his own, and yes, having his face on the cereal is milkage, but that's the price for being the face of video gaming.

Where's the Mario option?

Mario1331

because mario is not milked...

Your right

Mario Party

Mario Party 2

Mario Party 3

Mario Party 4

Mario Party 5

Mario Party 6

Mario Party 7

Mario Party 8

Mario Kart (Although I do enjoy this one quite a bit I must say)

Mario Basket Ball

Mario Soccer

Mario Tennis

Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix

Mario Golf

Mario Fun with Numbers

Mario Fun with Letters

Mario's Early Years: Preschool Fun

(I'm not making those last three up, that **** really exists).

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games

and all of these games numerous sequels not milking? Mario should be about platforming. Not racing (as fun as it is), basketball, golf, tennis, soccer, or olymic games.

I would have said Pokemon, but it wasn't in the list. The franchise hasn't just been milked by Nintendo, but also by imitations such as Digimon and Monster Hunter.

True I walked around with Mario T-Shirts and my mom had Mario stickers on the car windows. Had a Mickey Mouse lunchbox. Thought it was cool. Now I'm 27 and although they're both cute characters I'd rather give my time to a million other things. They're both burned burned into my brain from all the exposure.

I would say Madden and Guiltar Hero. I also have to disagree with people who say Rock Band because they're doing what Guitar Hero should be doing, DLC tracks. Aside from Rock Band Beatles everything is good so far.

Anything that can obtain mass market appeal can and most likely will end up getting milked. In fact I can't think of anything with mass market appeal that either isn't currently milked or on the fast track to being milked.

For me it's Guitar Hero. It's ridiculous the amount of money they're making compared to the amount of effort they're putting in. Next would be CoD if they're really coming out with 3 games this year. I don't care about Megaman and DBZ because those games suck. Another milked franchise would be LEGO games. But at least they have completely different stories with each game.

I used to not mind the Tony Hawk milkage, because the games used to be good enough that I could ignore it. Now, though...*sigh*

The number of games in a franchise has less to do with milkage than the variety of the games in a franchise does. While I agree that the Mario series is a bit milked, listing a long line of games that belong to the same franchise is not evidence that a series is milked.

I really don't consider any of those games to have mass market appeal. Gears of War and Grand Theft Auto are way too targeted at the adult audience to have true mass market appeal, and Burnout...I don't know, but it just never really got there.

What about Zelda?

Sure, there are a lot of Zelda games, but all are part of the main series and none of them are spin-offs or shovelware. (CDi games don't count)

LegatoSkyheart

There was also a cartoon series on television, a cereal, licensed mints, a board game, a couple different lines of trading cards...

Video Game wise there's only Link's Crossbow Training.

I wasn't aware that we were talking about was only extended to games. I thought any gaming franchise milked in any way was fair game.

The number of games in a franchise has less to do with milkage than the variety of the games in a franchise does. While I agree that the Mario series is a bit milked, listing a long line of games that belong to the same franchise is not evidence that a series is milked.twitchmonkey399

Is that not the definition of milkage? When you also add the long line of non-gaming related products like dolls, underwear and keyrings? Mario is a big cow.

''The act of producing spin-offs, sequels, and prequels to already successful titles and franchises for the sole purpose of profiting off of their previous success.

See. "Milking it for what it's worth."
